    Position Specific Description

    NextEra Energy, Inc. is one of the largest and highest-performing power generation companies in the nation and a leader in renewable energy. This position is part of the Renewable Operations Control Center (ROCC), which provides 24/7 monitoring and operational support for renewable generation facilities and associated transmission and substation assets. The ROCC supports safe and reliable operations across a growing fleet of renewable energy and battery storage resources.

    The Renewable Substation Operator (RSO) is responsible for monitoring and controlling the reliable operation of the companys transmission, substation, and high-voltage equipment. This position interfaces with Generator Operators, field personnel, utilities, and Reliability Coordinators to maintain system reliability, coordinate switching activities, evaluate equipment clearances, and support restoration efforts. The RSO plays a key role in ensuring safe, compliant, and efficient operation of the Companys electrical infrastructure. The role supports the monitoring and control of substation, transmission, and high-voltage equipment within the ROCC environment.

    Job Overview

    This job is responsible for monitoring and controlling the reliable operation of the Companys transmission, substation, and high-voltage facilities. Employees in this role support real-time system operations, coordinate switching and clearance activities, respond to abnormal operating conditions, and help ensure compliance with applicable reliability standards and operating procedures.

    Job Duties & Responsibilities

    • Dispatches resources to maintain transmission system operating reliability parameters.
    • Monitors and interprets alarms, equipment status, and system conditions to take appropriate operational action.
    • Writes switching orders and clearance-related documentation.
    • Evaluates and processes transmission and substation equipment clearance requests.
    • Ensures the proper and safe release of clearances before equipment is returned to service.
    • Assesses real-time system conditions and identifies potential operating risks.
    • Supports restoration efforts following system disturbances and equipment outages.
    • Coordinates generation, transmission, and substation outages with internal and external stakeholders.
    • Fulfills required communications and coordination activities with Reliability Coordinators and other operating entities.
    • Maintains accurate operating logs and documentation.
    • Attends required training programs, including NERC-approved courses and continuing education activities.
    • Complies with all applicable NERC, regional reliability, and company operating standards.
    • Performs other job-related duties as assigned.

    Job Overview

    The Sr ROCC Operator position is a critical role within NextEra Energy Resources Remote Operations Control Center (ROCC) that centrally monitors and operates the companys extensive 54GW renewable energy portfolio. Operators are resposible for representing NEE to our diverse set of customers with real-time coordination for changing operating instructions and market conditions, while maintinaing compliance with NERC, FERC, ISO/RTO and contractual requirement,s and responding to off-normal grid and generation events. Operators also coordinate internally with cross-functional teams for safe, reliable operation of our existing assets, and new site onboarding and monitoring through contruction. These duties include response to compliance and operational alarms, coordination and communication for safety, environmental, and reliability events, coordination for maintenance and testing, generation event troubleshooting and restoration, coordination of high-voltage clearances, and substation fault troubleshooting and resets.

    Job Duties & Responsibilities

    • Ensures renewable generation assets operate in accordance with safety and compliance requirements
    • Maximizes availability, reliability, and revenue through alarm monitoring and response
    • Coordinates market participation with internal and external schedulers, marketers, transmission operators, and balancing authorities
    • Responds to, troubleshoot, and recover from off-normal events related to substation protection and operation
    • Manages initial emergency response for safety, cyber, and environmental events
    • Plans outages and executes high voltage switching orders to support equipment maintenance
    • Mentors new hires on best practices and participates in qualification boards for new operators
    • Supports development and maintenance of alarm and response strategy
    • Performs other job-related duties as assigned

    Required Qualifications

    • High School Grad / GED
    • Associate's or Equivalent Experience
    • Experience: 4+ years
