Amazon Leo is Amazon's low Earth orbit satellite network. Our mission is to deliver fast, reliable internet connectivity to customers beyond the reach of existing networks. From individual households to schools, hospitals, businesses, and government agencies, Amazon Leo will serve people and organizations operating in locations without reliable connectivity.

We are a systems team, and we are developing code that runs on live satellites in orbit and runs production of satellites in the factory. Our focus is on Phased array antennas - one of the key components of the satellite. It's a high-performance embedded system that enables RF connectivity with customer terminals. We are looking for a software engineer with an ownership mindset, innovative ideas and solution-oriented approach that will bring together experts across multiple engineering disciplines to accelerate the rollout of Amazon's low Earth orbit satellite network. You will architect and implement software solutions that execute rigorous testing of the satellite hardware both in the factory and in orbit. You will gain in-depth understanding of our communications satellites, embedded systems, and improve understanding of hardware and RF systems. We have a knowledgeable and supportive team with broad cross functional expertise, so no prior experience with hardware, space technologies or communications is required.

Your Impact:

  • Lead architecture and development of scalable software test automation frameworks for phased array antenna testing and validation.
  • Design CI/CD pipelines and hardware-in-the-loop integration testing to streamline software deployment
  • Together with embedded software teams dive deep into the embedded system behavior and security, provisioning, secure boot considerations to develop software algorithms that interact with the antenna devices and analyze system performance
  • Partner with the hardware design team to define testing procedures and software algorithms that guarantee high quality of the hardware
  • Build cloud applications and dashboards for system monitoring and data visualization
  • Design and develop data pipelines for processing and analyzing massive datasets from RF systems
  • Develop simulation and modeling applications for antenna performance analysis

Technologies & Skills:

  • Fluent in one or multiple programming languages (Python, Rust, C++, Java, Go, or similar)
  • Strong understanding of system design for distributed systems, microservices, containerization (Docker preferred) for portability and horizontal scaling
  • Hands on experience with cloud services and distributed systems (AWS preferred, Lambda, S3, CloudWatch)
  • Test automation frameworks, CI/CD pipelines, HIL automation
  • Data processing and storage solutions (relational databases, time series databases, data visualization tools)

Export Control Requirement:

Due to applicable export control laws and regulations, candidates must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident (i.e., current Green Card holder), or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum.

Amazon.com Inc

At Amazon, we don’t wait for the next big idea to present itself. We envision the shape of impossible things and then we boldly make them reality. So far, this mindset has helped us achieve some incredible things. Let’s build new systems, challenge the status quo, and design the world we want to live in. We believe the work you do here will be the best work of your life.

Wherever you are in your career exploration, Amazon likely has an opportunity for you. Our research scientists and engineers shape the future of natural language understanding with Alexa. Fulfillment center associates around the globe send customer orders from our warehouses to doorsteps. Product managers set feature requirements, strategy, and marketing messages for brand new customer experiences. And as we grow, we’ll add jobs that haven’t been invented yet.

It’s Always Day 1
At Amazon, it’s always “Day 1.” Now, what does this mean and why does it matter? It means that our approach remains the same as it was on Amazon’s very first day – to make smart, fast decisions, stay nimble, invent, and stay focused on delighting our customers. In our 2016 shareholder letter, Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos shared his thoughts on how to keep up a Day 1 company mindset. “Staying in Day 1 requires you to experiment patiently, accept failures, plant seeds, protect saplings, and double down when you see customer delight,” he wrote. “A customer-obsessed culture best creates the conditions where all of that can happen.” You can read the full letter here

Our Leadership Principles
Our Leadership Principles help us keep a Day 1 mentality. They aren’t just a pretty inspirational wall hanging. Amazonians use them, every day, whether they’re discussing ideas for new projects, deciding on the best solution for a customer’s problem, or interviewing candidates.
