This role is responsible for developing and maintaining the Video Platform for the Chamberlain MyQ program. To accomplish this, the Sr. Software Engineer will work with other developers and architects to design, build, and maintain a highly-scalable, highly-available, and robust platform that can reliably serve live and recorded video streams to millions of customers.

In addition, the Sr. Software Engineer role will interface with other parts of the business such as User Experience, Product Ownership, Marketing, Quality Assurance, Operations, and Customer Service, in order to understand and translate product requirements into technical requirements, verify development matches product owner expectations, as well as maintain a high quality code base.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Design, develop, and maintain middleware using Agile methodologies such as Scrum and Kanban
  • Analyze requirements, collaborate with architects and senior engineers to produce thoughtful software designs of moderate scope and complexity
  • Participate in peer reviews and pull requests to yield high quality software
  • Present software concepts, designs, or code in a design review forum
  • Provide mentoring and coaching to junior engineers to increase the software development capability of the team. Be a reliable source for technical troubleshooting and support for the team
  • Lead and contribute to technical discussions in community of practice, design review, or other technical meeting forums
  • Work with offshore teams to design and develop features, and burn down technical debt
  • Ensure adherence to coding standards and other best practices to create reusable code
  • Maintain platform specific software knowledge of key software application features, frameworks, and components in myQ video platform and middleware
  • Stay current on modern technologies and innovations which can further enhance and improve the commercial success of the MyQ connectivity solution
  • Responsible for complying with the security requirements set forth by the Information Security team and the established ISO 27001 Security Roles, Responsibilities, and Authorities Document found in the ISMS Document Library
  • Comply with health and safety guidelines and rules; managers should also ensure compliance across their teams.
  • Protect Chamberlain Group’s reputation by keeping information confidential.
  • Maintain professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops, reading professional publications, establishing personal networks, and participating in professional societies.
  • Contribute to the team effort by accomplishing related results and participating on projects as needed.

Job Requirements:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, a related technical field, or equivalent practical experience
  • An advanced degree in directly applicable area of study may substitute for up to two (2) years of job related experience
  • 5+ years of job-related experience
  • Experience with Agile methodologies and Scrum and Kanban is required
  • Experience in creating technical documentation is required
  • Experience estimating work
  • Experience with Java technology stack, including Java SE, Java EE, JDBC, Hibernate
  • Experience with Eclipse, GIT
  • Experience with SQL, No-SQL databases, messaging systems

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Thorough understanding of OOP, SOLID, and RESTful services
  • Ability to work well with others and provide clear direction to a development team
  • Strong understanding of dependency injection and cloud development
  • Good communication skills and the ability to work cross functionally with front end and quality engineers
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to lead junior and senior engineers on projects
  • Ability to debug, troubleshoot, and self-diagnose issues in software development
  • Ability to interface with scrum team, product owners, and scrum masters for ticket/issue management
  • Ability to estimate work, support project plan creation, and report out progress to functional management at a project level
  • Understanding of CI/CD (continuous integration/continuous delivery) tools, frameworks and deployment processes
  • Experience supporting project plan creation, and reporting progress to functional management at a project level

Other:

  • Ability to travel up to 10% of the time domestically and internationally
The pay range for this position is $85,500.00 - $162,975.00; base pay offered may vary depending on a number of factors including, but not limited to, the position offered, location, education, training, and/or experience. In addition to base pay, also offered is a comprehensive benefits package and 401k contribution (all benefits are subject to eligibility requirements). This position is eligible for participation in a short-term incentive plan subject to the terms of the applicable plans and policies.
