Sr. Software System Integration and Validation

POSITION DESCRIPTION:

The System Integration Engineering Team is seeking a bright, self-motivated Sr. Software Integration and Validation Engineer to join our team

The successful candidate will ensure products and systems are integrated between hardware, firmware (embedded SW), cloud, and SW applications to ensure complete synergy of our solar and storage solutions. You will also be validating the quality, reliability, and usability of our software products before they reach customers. You will design and execute comprehensive test strategies across our commissioning application, homeowner application, fleet manager, and API layer, ensuring each release meets the highest standards of performance and usability.

This position will collaborate with product management and both hardware and software developments teams to define technical aspect of product and system requirements for our next generation products including AC Modules, Inverters, Energy Storage Systems (ESS), energy management, home electrification and integrated software for the North American market.

This role will be the key point of contact between the system integration engineering team and the software development team to ensure requirements and solutions will meet the needs of our customers. This role will collaborate on software level roadmaps, full system level validation test plans, and schedules.

This position reports to the Head System Integration and Architecture Team. This position will be based out of Santa Clara, CA R&D Center. Travel is expected to be 20% to test facilities and other Qcells offices.

 RESPONSIBILITIES 

• Collaborate with product management and development teams to ensure requirements meet systems level solution needs.
• Act as lead voice of customer for all UI/UX products and collaborate with product management to ensure delivery of best-in-class solution.
• Own system software level testing for system integration engineering as part of alpha validation phase including commissioning, homeowner application, fleet application, and APIs. Design, document, and execute manual test cases for the Commissioning App, Homeowner App, Fleet Manager, and Reporting modules.
• Execute structured usability testing to evaluate user workflows, navigation, and overall customer experience prior to release.
• Perform exploratory testing to surface edge cases and unexpected behaviours beyond scripted test coverage.
• Maintain and update test case libraries in accordance with product changes and new feature additions.
• Test REST APIs for correctness, error handling, and contract compliance.
• Develop and execute API test suites using tools such as Postman, Insomnia, or equivalent.
• Validate data integrity between front-end applications and backend services.
• Collaborate with backend engineers to understand service contracts and design targeted integration tests.
• Document and communicate test outcomes, defect status, and go/no-go recommendations to stakeholders. Produce clear, concise test summary reports and sign-off documentation for each release.
• Log, triage, and track defects in the issue tracking system (e.g., Jira) with clear reproduction steps and severity classifications.
• Support regression testing cycles following bug fixes and late-stage code changes.
• Administrator for system integration engineering confluence and Jira platforms.
• Support strategy proposals and drive lab testing automation and automated reporting.
• Support sales teams with pre-sales activities including product overview and training.
• Stay abreast of industry SW test standards and methods.
• Stay abreast of solar and storage industry trends and technologies.
• Research solar and storage completive intelligence and benchmarking

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

• B.S. in Engineering (Electrical, Computer Science) required, MS preferred.   
• 5-10 years technical expertise in solar modules, solar inverters, energy storage, and grid-tied/off grid HW and FW/SW systems.
• Demonstrated experience with manual testing techniques, including test case design, boundary value analysis, and exploratory testing.
• Hands-on experience testing REST APIs (Postman, Insomnia, or similar).
• Ability to read and understand software requirements, user stories, and acceptance criteria.
• Proficiency with defect tracking and test management tools (e.g., Jira, TestRail, Zephyr).
• Experience working with hardware and software development teams.
• Experience working with field facing sales, support, and sustaining teams.
• Experience testing apps and user interface tools.
• Proficiency in programing in python or other languages.
• Experience defining, reviewing online and print copy documentation is a plus
• Ability and proven experience to think creatively, learn quickly, and develop innovative solutions.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
• Well-organized and proven ability to manage both individual and collaborative team projects.
• Self-motivated with the ability to work both independently and with multiple teams in a fast-paced environment.
• Clear written and verbal communication skills; able to document findings for both technical and non-technical audiences.
• Experience with multinational teammates in US and other countries

• Proficient in Microsoft suite of products (Word, PowerPoint, Excel)
• Proficient in Atlassian suite of SW tools (confluence, JIRA)

 PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS 

• Experience testing mobile or tablet applications (iOS / Android).
• Experience in an IoT, energy, or hardware-software integration environment.
• ISTQB Foundation certification or equivalent qualification.
• Market and competitive intelligence experience
