To ensure Teslas overall mission of accelerating the worlds transition to sustainable energy, the Tesla Energy team is bringing our world-leading battery technology to the grid. Tesla is leveraging its breakthrough firmware, electronics, test, and manufacturing capability to develop and deploy grid-connected storage at residential, industrial, and utility levels.

The Residential Ecosystem team is looking for an engineer who is passionate about hardware/firmware integration and validation to drive the worlds transition to a sustainable future. This team focuses on optimization of energy resources-battery, solar, electric vehicle, appliances-in order to reduce reliance on the grid and lower energy costs. We emphasize collaboration in our work and always encourage each other to have fun while we change the world together.

Responsibilities:

  • Own the end-to-end hardware and firmware integration of Teslas Residential Ecosystem of battery and solar energy products.
  • Develop and execute test plans to validate functions, features, and system performance.
  • Lead and own system-level firmware validation, firmware regression, and firmware releases.
  • Work closely with cross-functional teams to ensure functional performance, safety, and compliance requirements are successfully achieved.
  • Drive continuous improvement in design and performance by providing direct and accurate feedback to design owners.
  • Develop and maintain interface control documentation.
  • Conduct failure analysis to understand root cause and drive resolution for hardware and firmware failures originating in testing and from the field.
  • Develop and maintain automated firmware tests in Python.
  • Hands-on with system bring-up and prototyping.

Requirements:

  • Degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent experience.
  • 4 years of experience in hardware and firmware integration and validation.
  • Strong electrical engineering fundamentals.
  • Experience with Python, C, C++, Go, or equivalent experience.
  • Hands-on experience with electrical, mechanical, and software engineering components and an understanding of how they interact in a complex product.
  • Proficiency with basic EE tools: scopes, power analyzers, power supplies, electronic loads, CAN tools.
  • Exceptional analytical problem-solving skills able to identify and surface issues within complex hardware/software systems.
  • Effective communicator and excellent attention to detail.

Preferred Experience:

  • Experience with stationary energy storage systems, solar inverters, electric vehicles, or home energy management systems.

Expected Compensation: $140,000 - $252,000 annual salary, cash, and stock awards, benefits.

Pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors including market location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. The total compensation package for this position may also include other elements dependent on the position offered.
