General Statement of Duties
Forsyth Countys Tax Administration Department has an opening for a Sr. Tax Assistant. This position performs complex specialized clerical work related to the preparation and maintenance of documents and records required for tax assessment/valuation, billing and collection.
This position, when assigned to the Records Management division, is vital to the monthly processing of registered motor vehicles as well as the annual listing and assessing of property. Sr. Tax Assistants in the Records Management section must be able to provide assistance to property owners in the listing and processing of Personal Property, RMVs, and Real Property records. The Sr. Tax Assistant should be familiar with all aspects of the N.C.G.S. regarding the listing, valuation, and taxability of such property and how to process tax listings within the tax office software system. A Sr. Tax Assistant in this section must be able to review and process monthly information resulting in the valuation and situs of registered motor vehicles. Sr. Tax Assistants must be able to independently handle most personal property appeals and process prorated refunds of motor vehicles. The employee should be able to perform real property ownership transfers, maintain mailing addresses, and other tasks as they relate to real property records.
This position when assigned to the Collections division, performs complex, specialized administrative work related to the preparation and maintenance of documents and records required for researching and filing foreclosures; and bankruptcy claims. The position ensures proper notation of bankruptcy status within the Tax Office; and provides the necessary information to the bankruptcy court. They oversee the foreclosure process which includes reviewing files prior to submitting to the foreclosure attorney; ensuring completion of all tasks regarding foreclosure sale processes; providing second check of the foreclosure certifications, and providing routine second check of payoff requests. The position answers questions regarding tax foreclosure and bankruptcy. This position assists in processing tax payments, as well as, providing support for the collection division as needed.
Position requires considerable public contact. Tact and courtesy in dealing with the public is essential. This class is distinguished from the Tax Assistant I by level of difficulty and independence of action. Work is performed under general supervision and is evaluated by observation and through conferences.

Ability to record and review information.
Minimum Education and Experience
Graduation from high school or GED plus two years of clerical experience which includes at least one year of tax office experience.
A higher education level may be considered as a substitution for all or part of the experience requirement.
Drivers License is required.

Notating bankruptcy status in the tax system.
Filing claims with the bankruptcy court.
Processing payments.
Answering questions for both internal and external individuals in regards to bankruptcy proceedings.

Provides second check of the foreclosure certifications.

Completes tax certification requests
Assist the public through mail, phone or in person.
