Salary Range: $18.35/hour per union contract.
POSITION PURPOSE:
The incumbent will perform beginning level maintenance and repairs of HART vehicles and mechanical equipment. This is an entry-level position
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
Performs beginner-level maintenance and repair on transit buses, mechanical equipment, and/or automotive vehicles, gasoline, CNG and diesel powered, including but not limited to engine adjustment, braking systems, shock absorbers and suspension systems and electrical and hydraulic parts and components.
Performs some preventive maintenance and troubleshooting inspections to determine need for repairs, road test vehicles upon completion of repairs.
Performs some service call and emergency repairs in the field.
Maintains records of work performed.
Assists high-level mechanics in more difficult and complex maintenance and repair tasks.
MARGINAL FUNCTIONS:
Performs other work-related duties as assigned.
REQUIREMENTS:
Education and Experience:
High School Diploma or G.E.D. certificate.
Graduation from a diesel or mechanical technical school is preferred
Machines, Tools, & Equipment Used:
General maintenance and shop tools
Licenses/Certifications:
Valid Florida Driver's License or be able to obtain one within 10 days of hire or moving to the State of Florida.
Florida Driver's License: must obtain Florida Commercial Driver's License (CDL) Class (B) with "P" (Passenger) endorsement is required for promotion to a mechanic position
QUALIFICATIONS:
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Basic knowledge of methods, practices, tools and equipment used in maintaining, removing, repairing, overhauling and replacing diesel and or gasoline engines, transmissions, air conditioning and heating systems, electrical troubleshooting brakes and air systems.
Knowledge of occupational hazards, precautions and safety requirements of the associated job duties.
Ability to operate maintenance equipment safely.
Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions.
Ability to interact with a wide variety of personalities.
Ability to perform tasks requiring physical strength and endurance, when required.
Ability to work various shifts, hours and days.
Ability to meet attendance requirements.
Physical Demands/Work Environment:
Constant periods of hearing, near and far acuity, depth perception, color vision and speaking
Visual acuity necessary to perform all duties
Frequent periods of walking and sitting
Frequent periods of standing and squatting
Occasional periods of lifting and carrying supplies and equipment weighing 50 pounds or more
Exposure to extreme noise when interfacing in the shop areas. Decibel range of 85+ duration on an occasional level
Exposure to mechanical hazards, fumes/odors, paints and chemical hazards in the shop areas
Subject to all weather conditions
Ability to hear, see, speak, and perceive color, depth and texture
Subject to standing, walking, bending, reaching, stooping, and lifting of objects up to 25 pounds
May be exposed to potentially intimidating and/or unreceptive members of the public; may occasionally be exposed to dangerous machinery, extreme weather conditions, extreme noise and physical harm
