SR. TECHNICIAN - TECHNICIAN - ASTM/ TMC Rater

Who We Are:

We are the Fuels and Lubricants Division! We are seeking a TMC-qualified rater to perform ratings for various light-duty, heavy-duty, and gear test types. By joining our team, you will receive an additional $500.00 in your first paycheck, minus applicable taxes.

Objectives of this Role:
  • Provide rating results for components tested at SwRI.
  • Using the ASTM/TMC method, provide rating results on Heavy Duty Diesel engine components.
  • Using the ASTM/TMC method, provide rating results on Gasoline engine components.
  • Provide rating results on Gear testing components.
  • Provide rating results on engine induction components, including valve train components.
Daily and Monthly Responsibilities:
  • Perform ratings in accordance with ASTM/TMC methods for ASTM tests conducted at SwRI, including diesel engine components, gasoline engine components, gears, and induction ratings.
  • Evaluate components for sludge, varnish, deposits, ring sticking, gear pitting and knurling, and carbon buildup.
  • Identify cylinder and liner scuffing.
  • Perform ratings using both bench top and through borescope apparatus.
  • Maintain annual rater certification through yearly industry workshop.
  • Assist with metrology duties, including precision measurements, PDI surface traces, weights measurements, and the use of precision tools.
  • Assist with photography duties, including operating photography equipment, capturing and processing images, using photoshop, aligning images with templates, and archiving files.
Requirements:
  • Requires a high school diploma or equivalent. Certified Rater for automotive lubricant deposits and distress preferred but not required.
  • 2+ years: Rating experience as a qualified TMC rater.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, including Excel and Word.
  • Ability to work overtime as required depending on workloads. Ability to work in an environment involving exposure to solvents, gasoline, diesel, and coolants.
  • Ability to travel on company business for rating purposes.
  • A valid/clear driver's license is required.

  • Intelligent Systems-Providing engineering services in resaerch and development of complex systems and equipment.
  • Mechanical Engineering-Improving safety, reliability, efficiency and life of new or existing mechanical components or systems.
  • Powertrain Engineering-Designing and developing vehicle and engine components to achieve performance and emissions goals.
  • Space Science & Engineering-Developing and managing advanced scientific payloads aboard satellites and sounding rockets.
