The Senior Transit Service Manager oversees and directs transit operations staff across multiple

functions, including operations support, mobility services (paratransit), light rail vehicle, and loop trolley services. This role ensures daily operational performance by providing guidance to Transit Service Managers, participating in staff counseling and disciplinary actions, and collaborating with other Metro departments on staffing, performance, safety and service matters.

Job Responsibilities

  • Ensures all operator and supervisory positions are appropriately staffed, qualified, and trained to meet service and regulatory requirements.
  • Establishes and manages work standards, assignments, and clearly defined performance expectations for operators, supervisors, and Transit Service Managers.
  • Oversees performance management for supervisory staff, including evaluations, accountability to operational metrics, and timely corrective action when standards are not met.
  • Supports employee development through coaching, mentoring, and training programs for operators, supervisors, and managers.
  • Administers progressive discipline and conduct disciplinary hearings in accordance with Agency and Division policies, procedures, and labor agreements.
  • Fosters positive labor relations by maintaining collaborative and professional relationships with

union leadership and employees represented by the Amalgamated Transit Union (ATU).

  • Coordinates workforce scheduling activities, including operator system assignments, vacation

selections, supervisor coverage, special events, and weather-related incidents.

  • Analyzes, evaluates, and implements transit service schedules and operational plans to ensure efficiency, cost effectiveness, and service quality.
  • Conducts accident and complaint investigations, prepares reports, and develops recommendations to improve safety and operational performance.
  • Provides on-site support at accident scenes, ensuring compliance with Federal Transit Administration (FTA) post-accident testing requirements.
  • Collaborates with Metro departments to resolve operational issues impacting transit service delivery.
  • Oversees vehicle-related operational issues, including maintenance coordination, specifications, modifications, and the development or implementation of related policies and procedures.
  • Ensures compliance with all applicable laws, regulations, policies, and safety standards, including maintaining awareness of legal and regulatory changes.
  • Verifies that supervisory staff maintain valid Commercial Driver's Licenses (CDL) and Department of Transportation (DOT) Medical Examiner certifications.
  • Manages and supports special projects and initiatives related to transit operations and service improvements.
