Job Summary

Based in Reading, PA, but offering remote work options, this role provides engineering and design support for the Power Networks Transmission Line Design Group.

Responsibilities

  • Design transmission lines ranging from 34.5kV to 765kV.
  • Perform structural analysis and design of pole, lattice, framed, and guyed structures.
  • Conduct foundation designs.
  • Carry out conductor selection studies, shielding, grounding, and induction studies.
  • Develop cost estimates and schedules; prepare specifications for procurement of transmission line materials and construction.
  • Review vendor submittals.
  • Monitor or perform complex engineering, design calculations, analysis, and other technical tasks.
  • Manage personal workload and proactively address potential problems.
  • Perform independent reviews of technical work and engage in employee development activities, including mentoring and training.
  • Participate in proposal preparation, estimates, and provide input to scope documents and client presentations.
  • Work independently or as part of a team in a team-oriented environment.
  • Ensure quality assurance of documents to applicable standards.
  • Supervise and coordinate other engineers to successfully deliver projects, providing technical direction to team members.
  • Complete tasks in accordance with project procedures, applicable codes, and standards, on schedule and within budget.
  • Discuss technical problems and communicate effectively with project personnel and external customers.
  • Perform independent audits and reviews of technical work.
  • Act as a team leader capable of solving complex issues and responsible for the quality of deliverables.
  • Interface with departmental staff, project management, and external customers.
  • Travel to job sites for site walkdown when necessary.

Qualifications

Technical/Industry Experience and Qualifications Requirements:

  • Extensive experience in transmission line design, including EHV (345kV or higher) system designs.
  • Proficiency with PLS-CADD, PLS-POLE, and knowledge of PLS-TOWER.
  • Experience in a project leadership role.
  • Effective technical and practical engineering skills, consistently delivering quality, accurate, and timely work.
  • Sound knowledge of the fundamental requirements of electrical engineering and basic requirements of other engineering fields.
  • Knowledge of design codes and standards such as NESC, IEC, CSA, IEEE, ANSI, IBC, ASCE-7, AISC, and ACI 318.
  • Competent use of relevant software such as MS Office Suite.
  • Substantial technical and practical experience in electrical engineering, including multi-disciplinary projects and teams.
  • Experience in estimating project costs and writing proposal content.
  • Strong interpersonal and written communication skills.

Education

Required:

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or Civil/Structural Engineering.
  • 7 years of experience.

Preferred:

  • Professional Engineer (PE) in the United States.
