DESCRIPTION

We are seeking a Senior Engineer V to support transmission and distribution engineering initiatives within the Pole Engineering business unit. This role will focus on structural and line design analysis, engineering modeling, and project development while ensuring compliance with safety standards, engineering codes, and regulatory requirements.

The ideal candidate will bring extensive experience in utility transmission and distribution engineering, advanced modeling capabilities, and the ability to collaborate across engineering, field, and construction teams. This role also provides technical guidance to less experienced engineers and supports infrastructure improvements and emergency response efforts.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Engineering & Design

  • Perform structural and line design analysis using modeling tools such as PLS-CADD, PLS-Pole, and PLS-Caisson

  • Conduct modeling and analysis for transmission and distribution infrastructure

  • Review and design pole foundations for new installations and evaluate existing infrastructure

  • Maintain and update engineering design specifications and documentation

Project Development & Technical Support

  • Support development of new engineering projects through research, data collection, and technical analysis

  • Prepare recommendations and present solutions to improve operational processes and engineering performance

  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to support internal and external stakeholders

Construction & Field Support

  • Coordinate with construction and field teams to resolve design-related issues

  • Conduct field inspections when required

  • Assist with emergency restoration efforts following events such as wildfires, storms, or other infrastructure incidents

Quality & Safety

  • Ensure compliance with QA/QC processes and engineering safety standards

  • Follow applicable regulatory codes and internal safety protocols

Leadership & Mentorship

  • Provide technical guidance within the transmission engineering practice

  • Mentor and support less experienced engineers in design and modeling practices

REQUIREMENTS
  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Structural Engineering, or a related discipline

  • California Civil Professional Engineer (PE) license required

  • Seven or more years of experience in transmission and/or distribution line engineering design

  • Experience working with electric utility transmission and distribution systems

  • Knowledge of California GO95, NESC, and ASCE codes and standards

  • Experience using PLS-CADD, PLS-Pole, and AutoCAD

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with PLS-Caisson

  • Experience with SPIDAcalc

  • Prior experience supporting electric utility infrastructure projects
