Sr. Utility Electrical Distribution Technician

Position Summary:

We are seeking a skilled and safety-driven Sr. Utility Electrical Distribution Technician (Journey person or equivalent) to be part of a team that installs, maintains, and operates the electrical distribution system located within Rome, NY. As part of the Electrical Utility Operations team, this role supports critical infrastructure that powers high-demand facilities, with an emphasis on system reliability, regulatory compliance, and fast restoration during outages.

This is a hands-on field role ideal for a Sr. Utility Electrical Distribution Technician (Journey person or equivalent) looking to work in a high-performance, utility environment with long-term career opportunities.

Key Responsibilities:

• Install, maintain, inspect, test, and repair overhead and underground electrical distribution systems as directed.
• Ability to perform cable splicing, termination, switching, and grounding on medium-voltage systems (up to 15kV).
• Familiarity with our operation and maintenance of electrical utility equipment including transformers, switchgear, circuit breakers, and fuses.
• Use digger derricks, trenchers, and other utility vehicles and tools in the field.
• Work at elevated heights using appropriate personal protective equipment.
• Ability to locate faults, isolate problem areas, and restore power in a safe and efficient manner.
• Perform preventive maintenance and inspection of distribution assets.
• Support switching operations during emergencies and affected facilities.
• Participate in emergency response efforts, including after-hours and weekend work as required.

Minimum Qualifications:

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Preferred 5+ years of experience in electric utility distribution (medium-voltage systems) or equivalent field experience.
• Valid Class A or B Commercial Driver’s License (or ability to obtain within 6 months).
• Ability to read and interpret electrical diagrams, switching procedures, and safety rules.
• Familiarity with OSHA regulations, NESC, NFPA 70E, and standard utility safety practices.
• Strong commitment to safety, teamwork, and customer service.

Working Conditions:

• Outdoor, hands-on role in all weather conditions.
• Regular lifting of equipment (up to 50 lbs.), working in vaults or confined spaces.
• May include rotating shift work, after-hours callouts, and extended hours during outages or storms.

Compensation & Benefits:

• Annual Compensation: $83,200 to $114,400 +.
