Description

Student Support Services (SSS) - STEM Program is looking for Peer Tutor/Mentors to serve as role models in supporting students toward their success. Tutor/mentors guide students in ensuring they feel a sense of belonging to the program and college and help facilitate a welcoming environment for personal growth and success.

This is a part-time, hourly position.

Example of Duties:

  • Create a professional and welcoming environment by modeling respect for students' diverse cultures, language skills, and experiences.
  • Provide individual and/or group tutoring/mentoring sessions
  • Participate in Staff Meetings, tutor/mentor training, and professional development activities to continue to grow cultural competence and reflection skills.
  • Make appropriate referrals to other campus and community resources as needed.
  • Facilitate group workshop sessions.
  • Provide subject-specific content to help students understand key concepts to improve academic performance.
  • Reinforce collegiate skills including time management, communication and networking, and study strategies.
  • Conduct check-in meetings with tutees/mentees and maintain regular outreach.
  • Assist in the development of skills necessary for students to succeed both personally and academically.
  • Uphold Program policies and procedures at all times.
  • Assist students in developing career/academic goals and expectations.
  • Evaluate and document tutoring/mentoring sessions.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Program Director and Success Coach.

Skills/Qualifications:

  • Current College Student
  • 3.25 GPA or higher/ A or B+ in the relevant subjects
  • Tutoring experience is preferred
  • Ability to engage with and build positive rapport with students from diverse backgrounds.
  • Genuine commitment to supporting first-generation, under-resourced, college students
  • Demonstrate professionalism, creativity, enthusiasm and encourage student success
  • Technology, communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills
  • Demonstrated proficiency in the subject area(s)

The completion of a background check will be required for the selected candidate.

Compensation:

Compensation is determined by a variety of criteria, including but not limited to previous relevant experience, education level, and certifications. The minimum hourly pay for this position begins at $16.
