The Staff Accountant plays a key role in preparing and reviewing financial information essential to business decision‑making. This position supports the capture and analysis of financial data used to generate key performance indicators (KPIs) and financial reports. The Staff Accountant collaborates closely with the Assistant Controller and Lead Accountant, assuming core responsibilities that allow senior team members to focus on financial statement preparation and analysis, budgeting, variance analysis, and forecasting.Essential Duties and Responsibilities:The Staff Accountant will be responsible for, but not limited to, the following:Prepare recurring and general month‑end journal entriesPrepare and reconcile financial schedules on a monthly, quarterly, and annual basisReview and post weekly accounts payable batchesReview the general ledger for accuracy and make corrections as neededPerform monthly bank reconciliations and deposits for multiple cash accountsReconcile and analyze balance sheet and income statement accounts for accuracy and completenessPrepare and file state and local sales and use taxes (monthly, quarterly, and annually)Prepare annual personal property tax returns and other required tax filingsPrepare schedules and reconciliations for annual audits and support external tax accountantsResearch accounting and financial inquiries and provide input into financial decision‑makingRespond to questions from department heads regarding expenses, budgets, and financial dataCollaborate with other accounting staff and departments to meet deadlinesPrepare annual business license renewal formsAssist with budget preparationPerform other related duties as assignedEducation & ExperienceBachelor's degree in Accounting requiredCPA certification preferred2+ years of accounting experience in a food service or retail environment preferredA recent college graduate with a strong desire to learn and a positive attitude may also be consideredSkills & AbilitiesCommunication & Language SkillsStrong written and verbal communication skillsAbility to write complex correspondenceAbility to read, analyze, and interpret:Business memosFinancial reportsGeneral instructions and short correspondenceMathematical & Analytical SkillsStrong business math and accounting skillsAbility to add, subtract, multiply, and divide using:Whole numbersCommon fractionsDecimalsHigh level of accuracy and attention to detail required when preparing financial dataAdditional InformationReasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions of the role.Equal Opportunity EmployerThis employer is required to notify all applicants of their rights pursuant to federal employment laws.
