Overview

Catholic Charities of Buffalo is currently seeking a full-time Staff Accountant. This position will perform specific analytical and/or financial functions including financial reporting analysis, month-end activities, and completion of tasks consistent with department objectives.

Job Responsibilities

  • Prepare detailed reports for Funders.
  • Maintain the general ledger, review financial statements, research accounts, and analyze financial records.
  • Develop spreadsheet reports, verify information, prepare journal entries, and reconcile accounts.
  • Prepare financial statements and reports and assist with monthly closing processes.
  • Analyze current accounting policies and procedures and recommend changes for improvement.
  • Respond to information requests, research and interpret data, and answer accounting and financial questions.
  • Meet processing and reporting deadlines, including the month-end close process.
  • Perform analysis of monthly financial statements to ensure financial information has been recorded accurately.
  • Investigate and resolve any discrepancies.
  • Prepare month-end work papers and related schedules.
  • Provide direct support with any general ledger inquiries or data support questions.
  • Assist with year-end audit.
  • Effectively interact with outside independent auditors.
  • Assist with special projects as assigned by the Director of Finance.
  • Contribute to team effort by accomplishing related tasks as needed.
  • Ensure all Company financial data is kept confidential.
  • Some travel required.
  • Project a positive, professional Company image.
  • Comply with the Agencys Compliance Program, Code of Ethics, laws, regulations, and ethical standards applicable to your job duties.
  • Adhere to all applicable federal and state laws and regulations, including but not limited to those governing confidentiality, privacy, program billing, and documentation standards.
  • All duties must be performed in accordance with CCBs corporate compliance and ethics program.

Qualifications

  • Minimum of an Associates degree and 5 years of experience in accounting.
  • Bachelors degree in Accounting or Finance preferred.
  • Must have at least 5 years of diverse experience in the accounting field with a focus on auditing and financial analysis.
  • Strong understanding of month-end and year-end financial close procedures.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong multi-tasking and organizational skills while coordinating many projects at the same time.
  • Detail-oriented and highly analytical (a must).
  • Strong knowledge of GAAP.
  • Self-motivated and team-oriented with individual initiative.
  • Team-friendly approach and an upbeat demeanor.
  • Must have the ability to handle stressful, time-limited situations in a composed and professional manner.
  • Can prioritize and stay on task.
  • Accurate and self-checking.
