Description

Stephens College seeks to add a Staff Accountant to our Finance and Administration team. The Staff Accountant will assist in preparing the college's financial statements, research accounting information, prepare reconciliations, and other general accounting functions. Support of other accounting staff when required. There is interaction with other staff, faculty, and students. The position reports to the Assistant VP for Finance & Controller.

Responsibilities:

  • Maintain general ledger chart of accounts (add, edit, delete)
  • Reconcile and monitor general ledger accounts
  • Prepare and record journal entries
  • Prepare reconciliations of bank and investment accounts
  • Monitor accounts to maintain proper balances
  • Prepare recurring reports and payments, such as quarterly sales tax and annuities
  • Prepare, review, and record various charges to departments
  • Assist in the cashiering position: process payments, input department deposits, count cash, and perform daily closing procedures, as needed
  • Assist in the accounts payable position; reviewing and entering invoices
  • Assist students with billing and other inquiries
  • Assist College departments with budget and transaction inquiries

Requirements

  1. Bachelor's degree (Accounting or related field preferred)

  2. Knowledge of Microsoft Excel, Outlook, and Word

  3. Excellent written and oral communications skills

  4. Strong analytical skills with great attention to detail

  5. Strong organizational and interpersonal skills

  6. Great Plains or similar accounting software experience preferred

  7. 1-3 years higher education or non-profit accounting experience preferred

  8. Preference will be given to candidates with demonstrable experience in legacy data migration and ERP system integration.
