Staff Accountant
Department: Budget & Finance Department (BFD)
Reports to: Controller
Location: Hybrid
Employment Type: Full-Time
Pay Range: $30–$36 per hour, depending on qualifications and experience
FLSA Status: Nonexempt
Our Budget & Finance Department supports a growing family of affiliated companies spanning tax, bookkeeping, audit, and manufacturing operations. We are adding a Staff Accountant with foundational accounting experience who is ready to take ownership of recurring processes while continuing to develop toward senior-level responsibilities.
You'll take on the recurring, process-driven work that keeps month-end and annual audits running smoothly, freeing up senior team members to focus on review, technical judgment calls, and higher-level reporting. You'll work closely with our Senior Accountant, with a clear growth path as you take on more complex, judgment-based work.
Prepare journal entries, accruals, and account reconciliations as part of the month-end close process
Own recurring, process-driven tasks that support an accurate and timely month-end close, enabling senior staff to focus on review, technical accounting matters, and higher-level reporting
Assist with corporate, 401k, and ESOP audit preparation by pulling schedules, supporting documentation, and responding to auditor requests under senior guidance
Support accounts payable and expense report processing (including sharing coverage for Certify/expense report administration) across multiple entities
Help maintain and improve documented procedures for recurring processes as the team scales and cross-trains
Perform general ledger reviews and flag discrepancies using existing reporting tools
Assist with data entry, cleanup, and reconciliation work in our ERP systems (Sage Intacct, QuickBooks) — including support for newly acquired or onboarding entities
Collaborate with the Senior Accountant, incorporate feedback on accounting techniques and processes, and progressively take on review-level responsibilities as skills and experience develop
Support ad hoc requests from the BFD Controller and executive team as needed
Two to four years of accounting experience in a public or private accounting environment and a bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance
Hands-on experience with general ledger accounting and month-end close processes, with the ability to complete assigned close activities accurately and escalate questions or discrepancies appropriately
Working knowledge of an ERP/accounting system (Sage Intacct, QuickBooks, or similar); comfort picking up new systems
Proficient in Excel — comfortable with basic formulas (VLOOKUP/XLOOKUP) and able to create and manage pivot tables
Strong attention to detail and a genuine interest in understanding the "why" behind a process, not just the steps
Comfortable asking questions and taking direction, while showing initiative on repeatable, well-defined tasks
Clear, professional communication — you'll interact with team members across our affiliated companies
Direct mentorship from the Controller and Senior Accountant who is actively building out this position to grow with you
Exposure to multiple industries and entities as our holding company group expands, including manufacturing
A clear runway: as you take on more, you'll have the opportunity to grow into review-level and audit-leadership responsibilities
A small, close-knit finance team where your contributions are visible to leadership
