Long-Lewis Auto Group is seeking a detail-oriented Staff Accountant to join our growing Accounting team. This is an excellent opportunity for a recent accounting graduate or early-career accounting professional looking to build a strong foundation within a large, multi-location automotive organization.
The Staff Accountant will play a key role in maintaining the integrity of the company's financial records by performing monthly accounting processes, reconciliations, and financial reporting tasks that support GAAP accounting practices across the organization. This position also assists with internal financial reporting, budgeting, and continuous process improvement while working closely with accounting and dealership operations teams.
The ideal candidate has a strong analytical mindset, enjoys solving problems, is highly organized, and is comfortable working in a fast-paced environment. Strong communication skills, attention to detail, and advanced Microsoft Excel proficiency are essential for success in this role.
Responsibilities
Perform monthly reconciliations of key balance sheet accounts, including the dealership management system (DMS), bank accounts, inventory systems, accounts payable, and other general ledger accounts.
Review monthly general ledger activity, account balances, aged reports, and financial data for accuracy and reasonableness.
Assist in preparing monthly reporting that bridges dealership financial statements to GAAP financial statements.
Prepare schedules and supporting documentation for internal reporting and board presentation materials.
Perform variance analysis to explain changes in operating results compared to budget and prior periods.
Assist with the annual budgeting process.
Help document reconciliation procedures and accounting processes to support standardized workflows.
Identify recurring discrepancies, process inefficiencies, or internal control gaps and communicate findings to management.
Assist with company-wide accounting and financial projects.
Help document and maintain accounting policies, procedures, and accounting treatments.
Support compliance with applicable state, federal, and local reporting requirements as assigned.
Maintain accurate financial records while managing multiple priorities and deadlines.
Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Accounting required.
Entry-level position; prior accounting or bookkeeping experience is preferred but not required.
Advanced Microsoft Excel skills required.
Strong analytical and reconciliation skills with the ability to investigate and resolve discrepancies.
Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
Strong written and verbal communication skills.
Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment while managing multiple priorities.
Ability to collaborate cross-functionally with dealership operations and corporate departments.
Experience using AI tools such as Claude, ChatGPT, or similar platforms is a plus.
