Position Summary

As a member of NIHC’s Finance & Accounting team, which drives the monthly and quarterly financial reporting, the Staff Accountant will play an integral role in ensuring that reporting to the Company’s stakeholders is complete and accurate. This role will report to the Assistant Controller and is responsible for, but not limited to, maintaining the day-to-day accounting and certain treasury functions, as well as performing accounting and financial analysis functions, as required. Furthermore, this role will help drive accurate and complete federal, state and local tax filings & compliance.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Assists and prepares journal entries, bank reconciliation, and underlying analysis to support the month-end close process.
  • Records daily cash activity for multiple bank accounts and assist in the maintenance of the general ledger for multiple legal entities.
  • Assists and prepares various tax filings (including but not limited to property tax, sales and use tax, business filings, etc.) and related compliance.
  • Prepares the monthly depreciation schedule for all fixed assets and perform reconciliation of fixed assets such as acquisitions, transfers, and retirements with the balance in the general ledger.
  • Answers financial and accounting questions by researching and interpreting data.
  • Ensures transactions are in accordance with GAAP and internal policies and procedures are followed.
  • Collaborates and works as a team.
  • Performs other work duties as assigned.

Qualifications  

Required:

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or related field.
  • Knowledge:
    • Good understanding of US GAAP, accounting principles and internal controls.
    • Familiarity with Dynamics GP or other cloud-based system/ERP systems.
    • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel (e.g., formulas, pivot tables, macros).
  • Skills:
    • High attention to detail and accuracy.
    • Strong time management and organization.
    • Excellent written and verbal communication.
    • Ability to function and perform tasks with little supervision and guidance.
    • Problem-solving.
    • Planning & organizing.
    • Ability to interact at all levels.
    • Ability to work as a team member.

    Physical Demands & Work Environment

    • Physical Demands: The physical demands described here represent those that are typically required to perform the essential functions of this position. This role requires the ability to see, hear, speak, and communicate clearly. Manual dexterity is needed for operating standard office equipment. The position may occasionally involve lifting items up to 10 pounds and may require occasional travel to meet accountabilities.
    • Work Environment: Work is typically performed in a clean, well-lit, and climate-controlled office environment with low to moderate noise levels. Occasional visits to field locations may be required.
