Position Summary
We are seeking a detail-oriented and motivated Staff Accountant with construction industry experience to join our growing finance team. The Staff Accountant will be responsible for maintaining accurate financial records, supporting month-end and year-end close processes, reconciling accounts, and assisting with project accounting for multiple construction projects. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of accounting principles, job costing, project-based accounting, and construction industry financial practices.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
General Accounting
Prepare and post journal entries and monthly accruals.
Reconcile general ledger accounts, bank accounts, credit cards, and balance sheet accounts.
Assist with month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close activities.
Prepare supporting schedules for financial statements and management reporting.
Maintain fixed asset schedules and depreciation records.
Ensure compliance with GAAP and company accounting policies.
Construction Project Accounting
Monitor project costs, budgets, and job profitability.
Review and reconcile job cost reports and work-in-progress (WIP) schedules.
Track subcontractor invoices, purchase orders, and change orders.
Assist with project billing, including progress billings and AIA billing processes.
Analyze project variances and communicate findings to project managers and leadership.
Support contract accounting activities and revenue recognition processes.
Accounts Payable & Receivable
Review vendor invoices for appropriate coding and approval.
Process payments to vendors and subcontractors.
Assist with customer invoicing, collections, and cash application.
Maintain accurate vendor and customer records.
Compliance & Reporting
Assist with annual audits and preparation of audit schedules.
Support lien waiver tracking and compliance documentation.
Assist with preparation of sales/use tax filings and other regulatory reporting requirements.
Maintain documentation related to subcontractor insurance certificates and W-9 records.
Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field required.
2+ years of accounting experience.
Construction, contractor, real estate development, or project-based accounting experience preferred.
Experience with job costing, WIP schedules, and project accounting preferred.
Experience supporting external audits and month-end close processes.
