Staff Accountant

JOB FUNCTION:

The Staff Accountant is responsible for maintaining accurate financial records, supporting month-end close activities, and ensuring compliance with accounting policies and internal controls. This role plays a critical part in day-to-day accounting operations and provides support for financial reporting and analysis.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITES:

• Prepare and post journal entries for routine and adjusting transactions
• Perform account reconciliations (bank, balance sheet, and income statement accounts)
• Assist with quarter end and year end close processes
• Support accounts payable and accounts receivable functions, as needed
• Support internal and external audits by preparing schedules and documentation
• Identify and resolve accounting discrepancies or variances
• Assist in preparing financial reports and analysis for management
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to improve accounting processes
• Other duties as assigned

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field
• 2-4 years of accounting or relevant finance experience
• Analytical and problem-solving skills
• Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
• Ability to communicate effectively, both written and verbal
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team
• Proficiency in Microsoft Excel (pivot tables, VLOOKUPs, or similar functions)
• CPA designation preferred

LOCATION:

This position will be based out of the Fareway Corporate Headquarters in Johnston, Iowa.
