Staff Accountant

Position Summary
A growing real estate investment and property management organization is seeking a Staff Accountant to support day-to-day accounting operations and financial reporting activities. This role will be responsible for assisting with month-end close, maintaining accurate financial records, preparing reconciliations, supporting audits, and contributing to various accounting and reporting functions across a portfolio of real estate assets.
The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, analytical, and comfortable working in a fast-paced environment while collaborating with internal departments and external business partners.
Essential Responsibilities
General Accounting
Assist with monthly, quarterly, and annual close processes.
Prepare journal entries, account reconciliations, and supporting schedules.
Maintain the general ledger and ensure the accuracy of financial records.
Assist with the preparation of financial statements and management reports.
Analyze financial data and investigate account variances.
Track fixed assets and maintain related schedules.
Support budgeting, forecasting, and special financial analysis projects.
Ensure compliance with company accounting policies and GAAP standards.
Real Estate Accounting
Review property-level financial activity and reporting.
Work closely with operations and property management teams to ensure accurate recording of transactions.
Monitor operating expenses and assist with variance analysis.
Reconcile cash accounts, balance sheet accounts, and intercompany activity.
Support accounting for acquisitions, dispositions, and other real estate transactions as needed.
Accounts Payable & Cash Management
Review and process invoices and payment requests.
Prepare and record electronic payments, wires, ACH transactions, and checks.
Process employee expense reimbursements.
Monitor cash balances and assist with cash forecasting activities.
Maintain banking records and assist with banking-related requests.
Record cash receipts and ensure timely application of payments.
Audit, Tax & Compliance Support
Assist with annual audit requests and preparation of supporting documentation.
Support tax compliance activities, including gathering information for external tax preparers.
Assist with preparation of 1099 reporting and other regulatory filings.
Maintain organized financial records and schedules for compliance purposes.
Stay current on accounting standards and regulatory requirements impacting the business.
Qualifications
Education
Experience
3+ years of accounting experience required.
Experience within real estate, property management, real estate investment, construction, or related industries preferred.
Public accounting experience is a plus.
Skills
Strong understanding of accounting principles and financial reporting.
Experience with month-end close and account reconciliations.
Advanced Microsoft Excel skills, including pivot tables and lookup functions.
Experience working with ERP or accounting software systems.
Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
Excellent organizational and communication skills.
Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines.
Preferred Qualifications
CPA certification or progress toward CPA licensure preferred.
Familiarity with real estate accounting concepts and property-level reporting.
