Staff Accountant

Job Description

Position Summary

The Staff Accountant is responsible for supporting the day-to-day accounting operations of the organization. This role ensures the accuracy of financial records, assists with the preparation of financial statements, and supports month-end and year-end close processes. The Staff Accountant plays a critical role in maintaining compliance with accounting standards and internal controls.

Key Responsibilities

General Accounting

  • Prepare and record journal entries in accordance with accounting standards
  • Maintain and reconcile general ledger accounts
  • Assist in the preparation of financial statements and reports

Month-End & Year-End Close

  • Support month-end, quarter-end, and year-end closing processes
  • Perform account reconciliations and resolve discrepancies
  • Analyze financial data to ensure accuracy and completeness

Financial Reporting & Analysis

  • Assist with internal and external financial reporting requirements
  • Prepare supporting schedules and documentation for audits
  • Analyze variances and provide insights to management

Compliance & Controls

  • Ensure adherence to company policies and applicable accounting standards (e.g., GAAP)
  • Maintain accurate and complete financial records
  • Assist with internal and external audits

Accounts & Transactions

  • Support accounts payable and accounts receivable functions as needed
  • Monitor transactions to ensure accuracy and timely processing
  • Assist with fixed asset accounting and depreciation schedules

Qualifications

Education & Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
  • 1–3 years of accounting experience preferred (entry-level candidates will be considered)

Skills & Competencies

  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and accounting software
  • Good analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Strong organizational and time-management abilities
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team

Working Conditions

  • This is an office based position with the option to go hybrid after training
  • This is a contract to hire opportunity
  • May require additional hours during closing periods or audits
