The Staff Accountant performs professional accounting and financial administration duties in support of the Corporation's fiscal operations, with responsibility for maintaining accurate financial records, supporting daily accounting operations, assisting with grant accounting and billing processes and other financial functions of RI Commerce Corporation and other related entities.Position FunctionsThe essential functions and duties listed below are intended only as illustration of the various types of work that may be performed. The specific omission of specific statements of duties does not preclude them from the position if work is similar, related, or a logical assignment to the position.Essential FunctionsGeneral Accounting & Accounts PayableProcess accounts receivable activities (billing and receipts for bond fees, rent, due from State etc.) for all entities, ensuring accurate and timely processing of all receipts.Assist with cash management related functions, including the maintenance of the daily cash sheet, performing daily cash deposits, and processing loans and other payments in a timely manner.Perform accounts payable related functions, including vendor maintenance, coordinating the annual 1099 process, preparing vouchers and data entering of payables for all entities, using Great Plains accounting software.Assist with month‑end and year‑end close processes.Assist in the preparation and posting of journal entries and general ledger transactions.Assist with the administration and accounting of grant-funded programs.Work closely with program leads to track grant expenditures and ensure compliance with funding requirements.Assist with grant invoicing and reimbursement requests.Administrative & Team SupportRespond to requests for financial information and supporting documentation.Participate in process improvement initiatives and special projects.Provide general accounting support to the Accounting Department as assigned.Help maintain internal controls and improve accounting processes.Dependable, confidential, trustworthy, flexible, and detail-orientedAbility to multi‑task, prioritize, organize, and manage time effectivelyExcellent written and verbal communication skills with strong attention to detail and accuracy.Demonstrated commitment to customer service and a collaborative team‑oriented approach.Preferred QualificationsBachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field.Minimum of 2 years of accounting, bookkeeping, or finance experience.Understanding of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).Experience preparing journal entries and performing account reconciliations.Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and accounting software systems.Experience with federal grant compliance and reportingIntermediate experience with Great Plains, Microsoft Excel, Word, Outlook, and CSC paymasterClassificationRegular Full Time – 37.5 Hours per WeekSalary / ExemptReports toCFOThe Rhode Island Commerce Corporation (the ‘Corporation') is an Equal Opportunity Employer.
