Center for Volunteer & Nonprofit Leadership (CVNL) is seeking a Staff accountant who will perform various professional accounting duties including maintenance and analysis of accounting records, preparation of accounting schedules, reports, and financial statements. Staff Accountant will also prepare journal entries and reconcile journal ledger accounts, ensure compliance with generally accounting principles and CVNL’s policies, procedures and contract.
Responsibilities
Accounting
- Maintain and update accounting records and files
- Reconcile bank statements
- Analyze transactions with heads of department
- Balance sheet reconciliation
- Assist CFO in preparation of Audit schedules and tax return
- Advise staff on accounting issues
- Apply new accounting policies and ensure compliance with rules and regulations
- Assist with month-end activities
- Monitor monthly journal entries on an accrual basis
- Monitor budget vs actual entries for departments
Payroll
- Assist CFO on all payroll tasks as assigned
- Gather and examine timesheets to ensure their validity
- Keep all payroll information confidential, maintain privacy for each and every employee
- Record payroll activity in general ledger
- Assist with 403b match and related annual compliance testing
- Implement or streamline payroll processing procedures
- Perform all tasks well before the pay run to ensure that staff members are compensated and notified on time.
- Answer questions from staff pertaining to payroll matters

Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or related field
- Demonstrate understanding of accounting of generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP)
- Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Excel and Word
- A minimum of 2 years of experience in nonprofit accounting is required
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities.
- Must be extremely proficient in computerized accounting systems, preferably Sage Intacct
- Must have strong verbal and written communication skills with ability to translate accounting concepts into simple language
- Extremely detail oriented
- Ability to work efficiently and meet deadlines as required
- Flexible and efficient in high pressure situations
- Ensure confidentiality of employee information
Physical Demands:
- Ability to perform computer work. In addition to basic computer desk work, the employee is required to stand, walk, reach above shoulders, and climb or balance. The employee may occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 lbs.
Expected Hours of Work/Travel:
- Local travel is typical for this position.
- This position is not eligible for remote work.

Compensation:
The budgeted starting salary that CVNL reasonably expects to pay for this position is $70-78,000.00 annually. This takes into account the wide range of factors that are considered in making compensation decisions including but not limited to experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, analysis of internal equity, external market comparisons for similar positions in similar geographic locations and size. Offers are determined based on final candidate qualifications and experience.
