Kforce has a client that is seeking a Staff Accountant in Washington, DC. About the Role: We are seeking a Staff Accountant to join a mission-driven organization and support the finance team. This role will partner closely with accounting leadership and contribute across a broad range of general accounting functions, with a strong focus on grant-funded financial activity and compliance requirements. Key Responsibilities:
  • Staff Accountant will support month-end and year-end close processes, including preparation of journal entries and account reconciliations
  • Prepare schedules and supporting documentation for internal and external reporting
  • Assist with cost allocations and financial tracking across multiple funding sources, including restricted and grant-based funding
  • Process and monitor accounts payable and receivable activities
  • Coordinate with internal teams, vendors, and financial institutions to ensure accurate and timely transactions
  • Monitor payments and assist with cash management activities, including wire transactions
  • As a Staff Accountant, you will ensure compliance with internal policies, funding requirements, and regulatory guidelines
  • Support audit preparation and provide documentation for external financial and programmatic audits
  • Assist with preparation of required regulatory filings and reports for a nonprofit environment
  • Contribute to process improvements, particularly within manual or evolving workflows
  • Provide backup support across various accounting functions as needed

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting or related field (or equivalent experience)
  • 3-5 years of experience
  • Experience with full-cycle accounting, including close, AP/AR, and reconciliations
  • Strong understanding of GAAP and general accounting principles
  • Exposure to a nonprofit, grant-funded, or regulated environment
  • Intermediate Excel skills (e.g., lookups, pivots, data analysis)
  • Familiarity with accounting systems and financial reporting processes
Preferred:
  • CPA or progress toward certification
  • Experience with grant accounting, cost allocations, and restricted funding
  • Knowledge of nonprofit compliance requirements and audit processes
  • Exposure to international transactions or multi-currency environments

The pay range is the lowest to highest compensation we reasonably in good faith believe we would pay at posting for this role. We may ultimately pay more or less than this range. Employee pay is based on factors like relevant education, qualifications, certifications, experience, skills, seniority, location, performance, union contract and business needs. This range may be modified in the future.

We offer comprehensive benefits including medical/dental/vision insurance, HSA, FSA, 401(k), and life, disability & ADD insurance to eligible employees. Salaried personnel receive paid time off. Hourly employees are not eligible for paid time off unless required by law. Hourly employees on a Service Contract Act project are eligible for paid sick leave.
