Role Description
The Staff Accountant I is responsible for executing foundational accounting activities that support accurate financial records and a timely month-end close. This role partners with accounting teammates and internal business partners to prepare journal entries, complete assigned reconciliations, maintain supporting documentation, and learn enterprise accounting processes under regular guidance. This role is important because it provides accurate financial execution that supports reliable reporting and creates the foundation for future accounting responsibility.
Key Responsibilities
- Month-End Accounting Execution: Prepare routine journal entries, workpapers, and supporting schedules that contribute to an accurate and timely financial close.
- Account Reconciliations: Complete assigned balance sheet reconciliations and resolve straightforward discrepancies through established accounting procedures.
- Financial Documentation: Maintain organized accounting records and supporting documentation for reporting, audit readiness, and internal control.
- Cross-Functional Accounting Support: Collaborate with accounting teammates and business partners to gather information and resolve routine accounting questions.
- Professional Development: Build technical accounting knowledge through progressively more complex assignments and exposure across multiple accounting disciplines.
Tasks & Duties
General Ledger Accounting
- Prepare recurring and standard journal entries.
- Complete assigned account reconciliations using established procedures.
- Prepare supporting schedules for month-end close.
- Maintain documentation supporting journal entries and reconciliations.
- Research routine accounting questions and elevate exceptions appropriately.
Financial Close Support
- Complete assigned month-end close activities according to established timelines.
- Assist with variance analysis by compiling supporting information.
- Support intercompany and multi-entity accounting activities as assigned.
- Participate in close process improvements identified by senior accounting staff.
Audit and Compliance Support
- Compile requested documentation for internal and external audits.
- Maintain accounting records consistent with company policies.
- Follow internal control procedures for assigned accounting activities.
- Assist with compliance reporting and documentation requests.
Professional Growth
- Develop proficiency in the company's ERP, BlackLine, and financial reporting tools.
- Expand knowledge of GAAP and company accounting policies.
- Participate in cross-training opportunities across accounting functions.
- Complete special projects and ad hoc assignments that broaden accounting knowledge.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting required.
- 1-2 years of accounting experience or applicable internship experience.
- Foundational understanding of GAAP and financial statements.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Excel.
- Ability to organize work, prioritize multiple assignments, and meet established deadlines.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
