About the Role

The Staff Accountant is a critical role within the accounting team working closely with other departments throughout the organization to report and analyze financial results and key performance indicators. The position requires a hands-on, detail-oriented finance professional who can build efficient processes, ensure financial discipline, and support data-driven operational decisions in a fast-paced manufacturing startup. This role reports to the Director of Accounting Operations and will ideally be based in Detroit, Michigan or Sharonville, Ohio.

What You Will Do

  • Support the monthly close process, including preparing journal entries, completing account reconciliations, and performing variance analyses for assigned areas of responsibility, including prepaids, accruals, lease accounting, debt accounting, and other accounts as needed.
  • Research, analyze, and document financial and operational results, including explaining variances to plan, forecast, and prior-year performance.
  • Track and monitor key financial and operational metrics to support business decision-making.
  • Assist with capital project accounting and fixed asset tracking, reconciliations, and reporting.
  • Communicate effectively with cross-functional teams and external stakeholders to obtain information, resolve issues, and ensure accurate financial reporting.
  • Support internal and external audit activities by preparing schedules, responding to requests, and maintaining appropriate documentation.
  • Assist in maintaining and enhancing internal controls and supporting SOX compliance activities.
  • Participate in ERP system enhancements, process improvement initiatives, and accounting automation projects to drive efficiency and accuracy.
  • Contribute to additional month-end close activities and special projects as assigned.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field required.
  • 0-1 years of experience in accounting, financial reporting, budgeting, financial analysis, or relevant internships.
  • Understanding of accounting principles and financial statements.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with a willingness to investigate issues and identify practical solutions.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities, meet deadlines, and adapt to changing business needs.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to collaborate effectively across functions.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, including formulas, pivot tables, and data analysis; experience with advanced functions is a plus.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to producing accurate, high-quality work.
  • Demonstrated initiative, accountability, and a desire to learn and grow professionally.
  • Experience with QAD or other ERP systems is a plus.

What Makes You Eligible

  • Anticipation & Proactivity: Ability to think ahead and prevent issues before they arise.
  • Adaptability: Thrives in a fast-changing, high-demand environment.
