Job Description
General Purpose
As a full member of the healthcare team, the chaplain assists with emotional and spiritual issues in the healing process. Specifically, the chaplain uses professional training and certification to assist patients, loved ones, and staff/ team members to more fully understand life''s events in relation to spiritual and emotional well-being, addressing both personal and professional needs. In addition, the chaplain supports departmental initiatives.

Job Requirements
General Requirements • Board Certified Chaplain or certifiable through the Association of Professional Chaplains/Board of Chaplaincy Certification Inc. or one of APC/BCCI''s recognized organizational partners. • Authorized for ministry (typically through ordination) and endorsed by their faith body to serve in a Specialized Pastoral Care setting Work Experience Spiritual care experience in a general hospital setting, preferred Education • Masters of Divinity or equivalent • Four Units of Clinical Pastoral Education in a hospital setting Specialized Knowledge and Skills • Strong interpersonal skills, including appropriate boundaries • Ability to work with an interdisciplinary team. • Demonstrated ability to obtain information on teachings and practices of religions of those served • Ability to fill traditional roles of clergy • Demonstrated ability to be empathetic and a good listener • Comfortable with own feelings and expression of emotions as well as others'' • Ability to work independently throughout the health system • Ability to successfully interact with a diverse patient base • Efficient computer skills
Position will serve the 4 University of Michigan Health Sparrow Community locations of: Charlotte, Ionia, St. Johns, Carson City.
