LOCATION: Lancaster General Hospital, Lancaster, PA
Summary:
Position Summary: Reporting to the Director, Chaplaincy Care and Education with accountability to the Chaplaincy team, the Staff Chaplain assists with faith issues in the healing process, makes spiritual assessments, provides crisis intervention and supportive care to patients, families and staff in areas to which they are assigned.
Qualified individuals must have the ability with or without reasonable accommodation to perform the following duties:
Participate in delivering and arranging for appropriate pastoral care to patients, families and staff in specific areas of the institution or to particular faith groups as assigned.
Respond to requests for spiritual care in a timely manner and completes documentation of services according to department requirements.
Addresses the specific needs of patients for spiritual care, access to religious rites, and sacraments either personally or makes arrangement with area clergy.
Helps to coordinate bereavement care for patients and families.
Support an interdisciplinary approach to spiritual care.
Participate in team meetings and rounds. Serve on institutional committees as appointed.
Promote an interdisciplinary approach to spiritual care within the healthcare system.
Participate in maintenance of proper administrative procedures for the department in accordance with institutional policy.
Assist in the coordination of clergy and pastoral visitors from the religious community.
Document spiritual care activities to communicate with members of the department and other health care providers.
Participate in the department's plan for continuous quality improvement.
Contribute to the wider community through publication, teaching, and research.
Author and co-author materials relevant to spiritual care and pastoral education.
Responds to requests for educational programming and presentations related to spiritual care, and perinatal loss bereavement, as invited.
Serves as a mentor for assigned Chaplain Resident.
Participate in programs and administrative activities of the institution.
Participate in weekly staff meetings.
Participate in regular professional development activities and supervision
The following duties are considered secondary to the primary duties listed above:
Serve as a liaison between the area faith communities, local supportive services, and the hospital and make recommendations for improving patient care and public relations with the community.
Assist the Chaplaincy Care and Education Department in providing 24 hour pastoral care coverage.
Provide pastoral services in such a way as to accomplish the institutional, as well as the departmental objectives. Function in such a manner that reflects the mission and vision of the institution.
Adhere to all Hospital standards, policies, and procedures. Adhere to the code of ethics of the Association of Professional Chaplains.
Participates in the on-call responsibilities for this position as required.
Other duties as assigned.
