Civil Designer – Transportation

Position Overview

We are seeking an experienced Civil Designer to support multidisciplinary engineering teams on a variety of transportation, infrastructure, and electrical-related projects in Dallas, TX. This position will be responsible for developing accurate, high-quality design drawings and construction documents while working closely with engineers, project managers, and other designers.

The ideal candidate will have advanced proficiency with OpenRoads Designer (ORD), OpenBridge Modeler (OBM), and Civil 3D, along with a strong understanding of civil design principles, CAD standards, and construction documentation.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop, produce, and modify detailed design drawings and construction documents using OpenRoads Designer (ORD), OpenBridge Modeler (OBM), Civil 3D, MicroStation, and AutoCAD.
• Interpret engineering sketches, redlines, markups, and design concepts to independently produce complete and accurate drawing packages.
• Prepare and revise plan sets, profiles, details, sections, and plot drawings for design submittals and construction documentation.
• Apply company, client, and industry CAD standards to ensure consistency, accuracy, and quality across project deliverables.
• Coordinate with engineers, designers, project managers, and other disciplines to integrate civil and electrical systems into overall project designs.
• Utilize and maintain CAD standards, templates, libraries, and design resources to improve production efficiency.
• Identify design conflicts, discrepancies, and inconsistencies and proactively recommend practical and technically sound solutions.
• Perform quality control reviews of drawings and design deliverables to ensure completeness, accuracy, and compliance with project requirements.
• Incorporate engineering redlines, field markups, and revisions into design documents.
• Support the preparation and maintenance of as-built documentation.
• Assist with design development and production activities throughout the project lifecycle.
• Contribute to continuous improvement efforts involving CAD workflows, standards, templates, and design practices.
• Manage multiple assignments and priorities while meeting project schedules and maintaining a high level of attention to detail.
• Provide technical guidance and support to junior designers and drafters as needed.
• Collaborate effectively with multidisciplinary project teams to resolve design and drawing issues.
• Perform additional project and design responsibilities as assigned.
• Support compliance with company policies, safety standards, quality requirements, and project specifications.

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Drafting Technology, Civil Design, Engineering Technology, or a related field with 7 years of relevant experience, OR
• Associate degree in a related field with 8 years of relevant experience, OR
• 9 years of progressive detailing and civil design experience.
• Advanced to expert-level proficiency with OpenRoads Designer (ORD), OpenBridge Modeler (OBM), Civil 3D, AutoCAD, and/or MicroStation.
• Strong proficiency with Microsoft Excel and other standard design and engineering software.
• Expert understanding of civil design principles, drafting practices, design calculations, and design systems.
• Strong knowledge of civil engineering theory and practices, with an understanding of how other engineering disciplines interact with civil design.
• Ability to independently execute detailed design and drafting assignments using applicable design software.
• Ability to interpret engineering plans, sketches, markups, specifications, and design concepts.
• Strong attention to detail and commitment to producing accurate, high-quality deliverables.
• Ability to work effectively in a multidisciplinary project team environment.
• Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience supporting transportation, roadway, bridge, infrastructure, or utility projects.
• Experience working with OpenRoads Designer (ORD) and OpenBridge Modeler (OBM) in a production environment.
• Experience developing construction documents, plan/profile sheets, details, and design packages.
• Experience coordinating civil design with electrical, structural, mechanical, and other engineering disciplines.
• Experience reviewing drawings for quality control and compliance with established CAD standards.
• Experience mentoring or providing technical guidance to junior designers or drafters.
