Electrical Designer – Contract to Hire
Location: Kansas City, MO

Aspen Technical Staffing is seeking an experienced Electrical Designer (Staff Distribution Designer) for a contract-to-hire opportunity with our client in Kansas City, MO. This role supports the design and development of 2.4kV to 34.5kV overhead and underground utility distribution systems and is ideal for a detail-oriented professional with strong utility distribution experience.

The Staff Distribution Designer will be part of a project team responsible for delivering high-quality engineering design packages for new construction, system upgrades, and redevelopment projects. This position requires strong technical capability, field experience, and the ability to adapt designs based on project constraints, client needs, and budget considerations.

What You Will Do

• Develop and prepare distribution voltage design packages for overhead and underground utility projects
• Design feeder replacements, cable replacements, new feeder systems, and distribution equipment installations
• Prepare design sketches, cost estimates, bill of materials, and supporting project deliverables
• Perform electrical distribution calculations including:
  • Cable pulling analysis
  • Voltage drop calculations
  • Pole loading analysis
• Apply strong knowledge of NESC standards and applicable utility design standards, specifications, and procedures
• Research and compile project data in support of project managers and engineering teams
• Conduct field inspections of overhead and underground electrical utility facilities on public and private systems
• Support project coordination activities including vegetation management, third-party attachments, right-of-way issues, and outage planning
• Develop client-facing presentations, reports, and visual materials to communicate technical results and project status

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in drafting technology or related field AND minimum 7 years of related experience
  OR
• Associate degree AND minimum 8 years of related experience
  OR
• High school diploma AND minimum 9 years of progressive electrical design/drafting experience
• Must have utility distribution design experience (required and must be clearly shown on resume)
• Strong working knowledge of overhead and underground distribution systems (2.4kV–34.5kV)
• Experience with utility standards, engineering drawings, and field coordination
