Job Summary

Our client is seeking a Power System Protection Engineer to join its Protective Relay Settings team. This role is responsible for developing relay settings, supporting Protection & Control (P&C) design activities, and performing power system analysis using industry-standard software to deliver accurate and reliable protection solutions.


Job Description

  • Develop protective relay settings, including line, transformer, breaker, and bus protection
  • Perform relay setting calculations and develop setting files using industry-standard software
  • Support Protection & Control (P&C) design activities, including one-line diagrams, three-line diagrams, schematics, and wiring
  • Conduct power system analysis and modeling using software such as ASPEN, CAPE, CYME, ETAP, and SKM
  • Apply industry protection schemes and philosophies for transmission, distribution, and renewable collector substations
  • Utilize Mathcad and Excel to perform protective relay setting calculations
  • Configure and support communication protocols such as DNP, SEL, MMS, and Modbus, including IEC 61850 implementation
  • Ensure compliance with NERC-PRC and other applicable industry standards
  • Coordinate with clients and internal teams while preparing technical documentation
  • Lead small projects, including managing schedules, budgets, staffing, and proposal development
  • Perform quality control and quality assurance (QC/QA) reviews
  • Mentor and support the development of early-career engineering professionals

 

Skills Required

  • 5–10 years of experience in the transmission industry
  • Minimum of 5 years of related engineering experience
  • Strong knowledge of Protection & Control (P&C) design concepts
  • Experience developing protective relay settings and setting files
  • Proficiency with power system modeling software, including ASPEN, CAPE, CYME, ETAP, and SKM
  • Experience using Mathcad and Microsoft Excel for engineering calculations
  • Knowledge of communication protocols, including DNP, SEL, MMS, and Modbus
  • Knowledge of IEC 61850 (GOOSE, MMS, SV) and its implementation
  • Knowledge of NERC-PRC and other applicable industry standards
  • Excellent written communication and coordination skills
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment
  • Experience leading small projects, including schedule, budget, and resource management
  • Experience supporting proposal development
  • Strong leadership and mentoring skills
  • Experience performing QC/QA reviews

 

Education/Training/Certifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering from a recognized accredited program
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license preferred but not required
