AREA OF ASSIGNMENT: (WATER SYSTEMS)
Key Responsibilities:
Overseeing engineering aspects of water asset management projects and associated communication, reporting, and office tasks. Additionally, the Staff Engineer will perform supervisory, quality control, and data and computerized maintenance management system (CMMS) management duties as required.
Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelors degree in Civil Engineering; supplemented by two years of work experience in civil engineering or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this job.
Specific License or Certification Required: Must possess and maintain a valid Georgia drivers license (as required by position assignment); current proof of eligibility to sit for the Engineer-In-Training (EIT) pre-licensure certification examination (to be provided within twelve (12) months of employment);
Specific Knowledge, Skills, or Abilities: Must be able to demonstrate proficiency in performance of the essential functions and learn, comprehend, and apply all county or departmental policies, practices, and procedures necessary to function effectively in the position.

EXAMINATION:
The examination will consist of a review of education and experience, accomplished by analysis of the application. Application must document that the applicant possesses the minimum knowledge, skills, education and experience as listed to be rated as eligible. If selected, an official, accredited college transcript is required, at time of employment, for all degrees/course work used to qualify for this position.

Purpose of Classification:
The purpose of this classification is to perform duties related to performing engineering tasks under close supervision, including water resources, construction projects, inspecting projects; reviewing land disturbance, drainage, and traffic plans for compliance; and preparing design calculations, engineering drawings, and sketches. Staff Engineer is distinguished from Staff Engineer, Senior in that the former works under close supervision and follows established design criteria, whereas the latter works with limited supervision and formulates engineering designs and plans in addition to supervising assigned staff as required. Through completion of a requisite four year engineering curriculum, incumbent in this class becomes eligible to sit for the Engineer-In-Training (EIT) certification examination. This series is distinguished from the Construction Management series by the degree of emphasis placed on performing engineering design versus construction oversight.
Essential Functions:
The following duties are normal for this position. The omission of specific statements of the duties does not exclude them from the classification if the work is similar, related, or a logical assignment for this classification. Other duties may be required and assigned.
Performs engineering tasks under close supervision and follows established standards and design criteria.
Provides customer service and technical information on projects.
Maintains various project files and prepares correspondence related to projects.
Inspects construction projects and provides advice to assist in resolving design problems.
Prepares design calculations, engineering drawings, and sketches.
Reviews land disturbance, drainage, and traffic plans for compliance with established laws and codes.
Reviews as-built plans and final and exemption plats to ensure design accuracy.
Updates and maintains water and wastewater maps.
Manages fee collections from work orders for the construction of monuments.
Reviews land disturbance reports and water and wastewater plans for compliance with environmental regulations.
Provides engineering input into the assessment process for existing water and sewer countys infrastructure.
Provides and maintains a variety of technical information and records.
Additional Functions:
