Job Summary

The Staff Engineering Technician role supports multidisciplinary project teams within the Technology, Commercial & Industrial Market Sector, contributing to Grid Solutions projects such as substations and overhead transmission lines. The Civil Engineering Technician is responsible for assisting in the planning, design, and development of site infrastructure including grading, drainage, roads, utilities, and erosion control.

 

Job Description

  • Functions in a project engineering technician capacity
  • Supports engineering and design teams by developing and modifying technical deliverables
  • Applies foundational engineering principles and established design practices to create moderately complex design concepts and solutions
  • Utilizes CAD, BIM, and 3D modeling tools to create, modify, and maintain technical documentation, drawings, and project deliverables
  • Provides technical guidance and may direct other engineering professionals and technicians to ensure quality and consistency
  • Applies knowledge of standards, systems, document control, departmental guides, applicable codes, and policies and procedures
  • Reviews project requirements and determines correct format and contents of deliverables
  • Applies quality program standards and supports continuous improvement and change management efforts
  • Reviews design inputs to ensure consistency and compliance with applicable codes and standards
  • Applies engineering principles and design practices in developing moderately complex deliverables and making technical decisions
  • Handles technical assignments within area of expertise and provides guidance to others
  • Performs design calculations, material quantities, estimates, and records
  • May review deliverables of others and define work assignments and schedules
  • Coordinates with other design teams to exchange project information
  • Supports field activities when required and focuses on internal and external client needs
  • Proactively seeks and shares knowledge of latest technologies and processes

 

Skills Required

  • Minimum of 5 years related work experience
  • Must have Civil 3D grading experience
  • Knowledge of CAD, BIM, and 3D modeling tools (Autodesk Civil 3D, Bentley MicroStation)
  • Understanding of civil engineering principles and site development design
  • Familiarity with grading, drainage, erosion control, roadways, fencing, and underground utilities
  • Ability to interpret technical drawings, codes, and engineering standards
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy in technical deliverables
  • Ability to provide technical guidance and collaborate with multidisciplinary teams
  • Ability to perform design calculations, estimates, and material takeoffs
  • Knowledge of document control systems and engineering procedures

 

Education/Training/Certifications

  • Diploma or Certificate required
  • Associate’s or Bachelor’s Degree in Drafting or Engineering Design-Related Technology preferred
