Staff Engineer Mechanical Analysis

Overview --------

A Staff Engineer Mechanical Analysis is responsible for evaluating the performance of structural and thermal systems under extreme loading and environmental conditions. The role will be integral throughout the development cycle to assess and inform product development and qualification. Initially, using first principles, hand calculations, Excel & Python tools, etc., to inform early design decisions, followed by high-fidelity modeling & simulation as part of detailed design and verification phases.

Responsibilities ----------------

  • Evaluate the performance of structural and thermal systems under extreme loading and environmental conditions
  • Assess and inform product development and qualification throughout the development cycle
  • Use first principles, hand calculations, Excel & Python tools, etc., to inform early design decisions
  • Perform high-fidelity modeling & simulation as part of detailed design and verification phases
  • Possess an understanding of fundamental mechanical engineering design principles
  • Be able to ascertain whether designs match their intent
  • Take initiative with a desire to learn and develop knowledge and skills
  • Strong communication skills, ideal for conveying complex information to technical and non-technical audiences
  • Occasional light travel may be involved

Requirements ------------

  • Masters degree in mechanical engineering or a comparable field preferred
  • Highly motivated, independent learners with a bachelors degree will also be considered
  • 8 years of experience, professional or otherwise, in the design, build, and/or test of mechanical kinematic systems or electronic enclosures
  • 2 years of experience in the structural and thermal analysis of mechanical kinematic systems and/or electronics packaging in FEA, ANSYS preferred
  • Nonlinear structural & thermal contact friction plasticity phase change
  • Linear dynamics modal random vibration shock response
  • Fatigue & thermal stress
  • Ability to construct and evaluate kinematic models, ANSYS or Simscape preferred
  • Familiarity with fluid systems, particularly conjugate heat transfer
  • Familiarity with the behavior of metals and non-linear materials
  • Familiarity with the design development, qualification, and production of military or aerospace products and standards

Work Environment ----------------

  • Office position with occasional exposure to a typical manufacturing environment
  • This position is at our Parsippany, NJ office location

Pay Range ----------

  • $137,000 - $150,000
