Description

Role DescriptionThe Mechanical Engineering team at Form focuses on designing the battery cell, module, and full pack system that forms the foundation of our innovative utility‑scale multi‑day energy storage system. We strive to deliver designs that are optimized for performance, quality, reliability, and cost for high‑volume manufacturing at Form Factory. We're hiring a hands‑on Staff Mechanical Design Engineer to own the design of subsystems within our Thermal management system. This is a critical system in Form's iron‑air battery technology and is vital to the system's successful operation and cell temperature control. In this role, you will play a key part in the product architecture and detailed design stages, first‑of‑a‑kind build activities, system verification, and design for cost. You can expect to build and verify analytical models of the system, lead prototyping efforts, and work closely with controls engineers to implement the system concept of operations.Relocation assistance is available. What you'll do:Architect, design, prototype, and test the thermal management system to meet critical performance requirementsBuild and maintain thermal system analytical models that inform design architecture decisionsFabricate and test first‑of‑a‑kind prototypes to validate system design choicesConsider ways to design the product for high‑volume manufacturing and reduce product costLead critical vendor engagements and collaborate with manufacturing engineers to transition system designs from prototype to high‑volume productionCollaborate with the Electrical and Controls teams to optimize actuator and sensor integrationMentor junior engineers and level up our mechanical engineering best practicesChampion safety, especially in the development of new laboratory processesWhat you'll bring:Degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field; Bachelor's with 8+ years of industry experience in mechanical design of equipment, liquid or gas handling systemsUnderstanding of first‑principles fluids modeling and experience optimizing designs for manufacturing and cost‑downExperience working in a manufacturing environment or with contract manufacturing vendorsDemonstrated experience optimizing mechanical design, thermodynamic systems, and interdisciplinary interfaces of fluid systemsSense of urgency and self‑driven to hit difficult schedule targetsDirect experience in product development within an early‑stage environment ramping into productionHumanity is a cornerstone of Form Energy's culture, and we make sure our compensation and benefits reflect that.
