Legal Entity Orrville Hospital Foundation Position Summary The Aultman Registered Nurse (RN) is a professional nurse that provides direct, primary nursing care to patients/residents. The RN delegates and coordinates patient care, based upon a documented assessment of the patients/residents needs. The RN supervises the care provided by individuals such as licensed practical nurses, patient care technicians/state tested nursing assistants/nurse aides, medical assistants, and etc., if applicable. Department Summary Medical Surgical Unit consists of 16 patient beds (14 private rooms) with telemetry capability and is located on the second floor of Aultman Orrville Hospital. The Medical Surgical/ICU Department at Aultman Orrville Hospital is staffed to provide care to pediatric, adolescent, adult, and geriatric patient populations. Any bed on the medical surgical floor may also be utilized for skilled nursing care as part of the Swing Bed Program. Pre-registered outpatient procedures are also completed on the Medical Surgical/ICU Unit. Examples of outpatient procedures include but are not limited to the following: Blood transfusions, Antibiotic therapy, Subcutaneous or intramuscular injections, Intravenous drug infusions. Qualifications Graduate of an accredited school of nursing; BSN preferred. Current, active licensure as a Registered Nurse through the Ohio Board of Nursing. Obtain and maintain current American Heart Association (AHA) training in Basic Life Support (BLS) utilizing Resuscitation Quality Improvement (RQI) is required. Certification preferred for RNs meeting applicable certification eligibility requirements. Membership in professional nursing organization preferred. Department Qualifications Obtain and maintain current American Heart Association (AHA) training in Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS utilizing Resuscitation Quality Improvement (RQI) is required. Obtain and maintain current American Heart Association (AHA) training in Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS utilizing Resuscitation Quality Improvement (RQI) is required. Obtain and maintain current National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale (NIHSS) and 1 additional Stroke CEU, available in Relias, for a total of 4 stroke CEUs required annually. Skills Proficient computer skills to complete tasks as required. Must be organized, able to effectively prioritize tasks and exhibit appropriate time management skills. Must be detail oriented while focusing on safe practices and quality care. Demonstrates effective communication. Effective appropriate and professional interactions with colleagues/physicians, patients and visitors. Department Skills Telemetry Monitoring. Wound care and dressing changes. Responsibilities Expectations RN applies the nursing process of assessment, planning interventions, accurately implements and/or delegates patient care, evaluates that care, and accurately communicates patient information in a timely manner. RN is a patient/resident advocate in conjunction with the other members of the healthcare team and fosters patient safety, comfort and satisfaction. Attains knowledge and competency that reflects current nursing practice. Demonstrates quality and effectiveness of nursing practice. Adhere to professional standards and guidelines, including ethical actions, relevant statutes, rules and regulations, during nursing practice. Collaborates with patient, family, and others in the conduct of nursing practice. Exhibits High Reliability Organization (HRO) tools and tones. Provides leadership in the professional practice setting and contributes to the professional development of peers, colleagues and students. Integrates research findings into practice. Responsible for timely review of emails, department communications and applicable learning assignments and completion as applicable. Department Responsibilities Expectations Performs and documents patient assessments, planning, interventions and evaluations of outcomes in a timely manner while maintaining a confidential patient record. Administers medications safely according to the five rights of medication administration and assesses patient response to treatments. Determines a plan of care according to each patients individual need and incorporates family members into the plan of care. Revises the plan of care according to the patients response. Formulates an education plan based on identified learning needs of the patient/family and evaluates the effectiveness of learning. Supervision of nursing care delivered by LPNs and Patient Care Technicians. Utilizes electronic medical record and other computerized programs for documentation of care and completion of daily tasks. Treats patient/family with respect and dignity. Identifies and addresses psychological, social, cultural, ethnic, and religious/spiritual needs of the patient/family. Complies with organizational policies, procedures, and code of conduct. Demonstrates, creates, and fosters a work environment that is consistent with the Mission, Vision, and Values of the Aultman Health Foundation and provides care that consistently complies with the Aultman Corporate Service Standards and high reliability culture. Manages time wisely and seeks assignments when duties are completed. Attains knowledge and competency that reflects current nursing practice and evaluates ones own nursing practice in relation to professional standards and guidelines, relevant statutes, rules and regulations. Represents the hospital by volunteering for community activities which may include participation at community events, activities or on local boards. Seeks opportunities for involvement and participates in hospital based committees. Other duties as assigned. Working Conditions Meal and break times are coordinated with other staff members to maintain adequate coverage. Shifts are scheduled or changed due to the staffing needs of the unit/department based upon volume and acuity. Work weekends and holidays as assigned or as applicable based on department needs. Cross training depending upon department needs.
