Job Description

Staff or Senior Staff Psychologist or a Staff or Senior Staff Social Worker

University Counseling Services of Boston College has an opening for a full time Staff or Senior Staff Psychologist or a Staff or Senior Staff Social Worker. This is a full-time, 12-month position. Benefits are excellent and the salary range is competitive with peer institutions. We are seeking a clinician with demonstrated skills and investment in working with diverse student populations, and in providing effective time limited individual and group therapy as well as emergency psychological care. Staff psychologists may also have the opportunity to provide supervision within an established postdoctoral training program, and Senior Staff may have opportunities over time to provide clinical supervision to junior staff members.

University Counseling Services is highly utilized with nearly 2,000 students receiving individual or group services each year. Counseling Services maintains close connections with the academic units of the university as well as with Student Affairs partners. The department enjoys strong working relationships with faculty, staff and administrators, as well as with various student groups. Responsibilities include:

• Depth oriented and skills based individual and group counseling and psychotherapy
• Emergency coverage and crisis intervention
• Solution focused same day therapy
• Clinical consultation to faculty, staff, students, and families
• Outreach and training
• Supervision of post-doctoral fellows, practicum students, or junior staff as needed and appropriate
• Collaboration with departmental psychiatric providers
• Evening and weekend on-call is periodically required as a back-up to external emergency coverage. In addition, as a professional, flexibility is expected to ensure that all responsibilities and tasks are completed effectively, even if that means occasionally working beyond regular hours.
• Some of this work may take place on weekends and outside of normal business hours.

Each staff member in the Division of Student Affairs is expected to support division and university-wide initiatives, staff events, and serve on committees as needed.

Requirements

Requirements (across all titles):

• Expertise in providing psychotherapy, crisis intervention, and risk assessment for a large and diverse student population.
• Experience in collaboration with campus or community partners, such as faculty, staff, and partner healthcare providers.
• Background in outreach programming, psychoeducation, or training within a university or community setting.
• Proficiency in using electronic medical records (EMR) for clinical documentation and case management.
• Familiarity with culturally responsive care and the integration of mission-driven values, such as cura personalis, into mental health practice. Ability to practice independently.
• Demonstrated skill and investment in working with diverse client populations.

Desired Qualifications:

• Experience providing therapy for disordered eating
• Experience working with trauma
• Demonstrated knowledge and experience in understanding the complex clinical needs related to personal identities and experiences of the full range of students.
• Previous experience working in a University Counseling setting.

Title and salary commensurate with relevant experience based on the following:

Staff Psychologist: $88,360 -$110,450

• Completed doctorate in counseling or clinical psychology
• Licensure as a psychologist in Massachusetts within 3 months of starting

Senior Staff Psychologist: $97,440 - $121,800

• Completed doctorate in counseling or clinical psychology; licensure as a psychologist in

Massachusetts within 3 months of starting

• Minimum of 5 years of post-licensure experience providing psychotherapy in a university mental health setting or similar setting
• Experience with clinical supervision of junior staff

Staff Social Worker: $74,440 -$93,050

• MSW from a CSWE-accredited program or a Board-approved doctoral degree in social work
• Licensed Independent Clinical Social Worker in Massachusetts preferred, or ability to obtain MA LICSW within 3 months of starting
• Minimum of 3 years of post-licensure experience providing psychotherapy in a university mental health setting or similar setting

Senior Staff Social Worker: $82,120 -$102,650

• MSW from a CSWE-accredited program or a Board-approved doctoral degree in social work
• Licensed Independent Clinical Social Worker in Massachusetts within 3 months of starting
• Minimum of 5 years of post-licensure experience providing psychotherapy in a university mental health setting or similar setting
