Staff Periodontist: Combine Specialty Practice, Teaching, and Service - Los Angeles VAMC

    Job Description

    The Greater Los Angeles Department of Veterans Affairs is looking for a Staff Periodontist to join our Dental Service Line in a full-time clinical and teaching role. This is an excellent opportunity for a periodontist interested in combining comprehensive specialty care, implant dentistry, and resident education while caring for Veterans in a collaborative VA environment.

    Key Responsibilities: As a Staff Periodontist, youll provide periodontal and peri-implant care across a broad clinical scope, including:

    • Comprehensive periodontal evaluations, diagnosis, consultation, and treatment planning
    • Periodontal and peri-implant disease management
    • Osseous grafting and resective periodontal surgery
    • Soft-tissue, palatal, and connective-tissue grafting
    • Root resective procedures
    • Ridge augmentation and hard- and soft-tissue contouring
    • Guided tissue regeneration and guided bone regeneration
    • Surgical placement, maintenance, and removal of dental implants
    • Sinus augmentation associated with implant placement
    • Vestibuloplasty and frenectomy
    • Alveoloplasty
    • Surgical tooth exposure and perforation repair
    • Tooth extractions, including impacted teeth associated with periodontal surgery
    • Intentional tooth replantation or transplantation
    • Minor tooth movement using fixed appliances
    • Surgical removal of dentoalveolar osseous lesions and exostoses
    • Nonsurgical management of temporomandibular disorders

    Moderate (conscious) sedation may be included in the providers scope after completing and maintaining required VA credentialing, privileging, training, and competency requirements. Responsibilities include safe sedation administration and monitoring, informed consent and documentation, compliance with sedation protocols, resident supervision within approved scope, and appropriate response to sedation-related complications.

    Work Schedule: Full-time / On-site

    Qualifications:

    • Must be a U.S. Citizen
    • Doctor of Dental Surgery or Dental Medicine
    • Current, full, and unrestricted license
    • Completion or in-progress of completing residency in core specialty OR
      • Comparable experience as a dentist involved in treating medically compromised patients
    • Preferred:
      • Board Certified in Periodontology
      • Sedation permit from a state licensing board

    Benefits and Features:

    • Salary Range: $235,000,000-$265,000
    • PTO: 50-55 days of PTO annually (26/13 days of annual/sick leave, 11 holidays,)
