Staff Quality Automation Engineer

Job Summary

How you will impact the organization…The Staff Quality Engineer acts as a strategic technical leader within the Product and Technology organization. This role is responsible for defining next-generation QA strategies and leading AI/ML-driven automation initiatives. The Staff Quality Automation Engineer will drive productivity by implementing enterprise-wide efficiency metrics and creating a QA-driven culture that aligns strictly with business objectives. This individual is expected to influence peers positively, lead by example, and ensure the highest standards of software reliability.

Strategic Architecture & Innovation: Lead the design and implementation of scalable test automation frameworks. Define next-generation QA strategies and spearhead the adoption of AI/ML-driven automation tools to drive continuous innovation.

Operational Efficiency: Drive engineering productivity by implementing enterprise-wide test automation efficiency metrics. Integrate AI-based optimizations into the CI/CD pipeline to reduce cycle times and eliminate manual toil.

Cultural Leadership & Alignment: Champion a QA-driven culture across the organization. Collaborate with product and engineering leadership to ensure that quality goals are directly aligned with broader business objectives and customer needs.

Advanced Problem Solving: Proactively identify, troubleshoot, and solve complex systemic issues before they impact production. Anticipate potential roadblocks in the development lifecycle and communicate them effectively to stakeholders without overreacting.

Technical Communication: Translate and communicate complex technical topics to larger, less technical audiences with confidence. Create and maintain comprehensive documentation for architecture, processes, and testing standards.

Mentorship & Team Growth: Lead by example through a strong work ethic, professional attitude, and total accountability. Influence peers positively and provide informal mentorship to elevate the technical capabilities of the team.

Collaborative Reach: Establish a strong cross-functional relationships to ensure automation supports release velocity, system reliability and business continuity.

Ownership: Takes full accountability at given tasks, releases at different environments (Dev, Test and PROD) from quality testing standpoint.

Decision Making: Makes high impact technical decisions that balance speed, coverage and system stability with minimizing production risk.

Key Responsibilities

Evaluate and recommend new testing tools and technologies to modernize the QA ecosystem, conducting proof-of-concepts as needed to ensure scalability and long-term value.

Lead Post-Mortem and Root Cause Analysis (RCA) sessions following critical incidents to drive corrective and preventative improvements in automation and release processes.

Support enterprise transformation initiatives where quality engineering expertise is required outside of primary project responsibilities.

Perform other duties and responsibilities as required, assigned, or requested.

What You Will Bring to the Table

  • 10+ years of progressive experience in Software Quality Assurance with strong exposure to enterprise-scale systems.
  • 8+ years of hands-on experience with Playwright, Java, TestNG, and JavaScript-based frameworks such as Mocha.
  • 6+ years of hands-on experience in test automation across API, Web, and Mobile platforms.
  • 4+ years of experience leading QA teams and managing multiple applications or large-scale projects simultaneously.
  • 4+ years of experience implementing API automation using Node.js and performance or load testing using JMeter.
  • Strong hands-on experience integrating automation with Git and Jenkins within CI/CD pipelines.
  • Experience leading quality initiatives across onshore and offshore distributed teams.
  • Demonstrated success delivering in fast-paced, customer-focused environments with tight release timelines.
  • Strong knowledge of software testing methodologies, quality engineering best practices, and governance standards.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills with the ability to articulate technical strategies to diverse audiences.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines effectively.

Required Skills

  • Automation Architecture & Framework Design: 8+ years of experience designing, implementing, and scaling complex automation frameworks across UI, API, and integration layers using tools such as Playwright, nodeJS or equivalent technologies.
  • Programming Expertise: Strong proficiency in at least one modern programming language (Java, JavaScript, Python, C#, or TypeScript), with the ability to write clean, maintainable, and scalable automation code aligned with engineering best practices.
  • AI-Enabled Testing Practices: Experience leveraging AI-assisted tools or intelligent automation techniques to improve test creation, maintenance, execution optimization, or quality analytics.
  • CI/CD & DevOps Integration: Deep understanding of integrating automation into CI/CD pipelines (Jenkins, GitLab CI, GitHub Actions, etc.), including implementation of quality gates, test orchestration strategies, and release validation workflows.
  • Backend & Frontend Testing Experience: Hands-on experience validating distributed systems across both backend services (APIs, microservices, databases) and frontend applications (web-based UI frameworks).
  • Cloud & AWS Stack Experience: Practical experience working within AWS environments, including services such as EC2, S3, DynamoDB, and related cloud infrastructure components.
  • Strategic Vision: Ability to look beyond immediate testing needs to build long-term, scalable quality strategies that leverage emerging technologies like AI.
  • Articulate Communication: Skilled at explaining intricate technical challenges to non-technical stakeholders; confident in presenting data-driven quality insights.
  • Proactive Accountability: Takes ownership of quality outcomes; anticipates problems early and drives solutions independently rather than waiting for direction.
  • Influence & Collaboration: Capable of shifting organizational culture and influencing peers and leadership without relying solely on authority.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related technical field (or equivalent practical experience).
  • Experience with cloud-native testing (AWS).
  • Familiarity with functional and performance testing tools.
  • Experience transitioning teams from manual to fully automated testing lifecycles.
  • Experience with HITRUST and FEDRAMP HIGH systems.

Location and Travel Requirements

  • Location requirements: Fully remote within the U.S. (Los Angeles or Las Vegas preferred.)
  • Travel requirements: Up to 10% travel.
  • Physical requirements: Must be able to sit for long periods, as well as, handle long periods of screen time.
  • Technology requirements: Reliable, high speed internet.

Salary and Benefits

  • Salary range: $140,000 - $155,000 USD annually.
  • Total compensation package: Negotiable and may include annual performance bonus, ESPP, enhanced time off packages and benefits.
