Tesla is looking for a highly motivated Staff Quality Engineer focusing on launch production of actuators for Optimus humanoid robots. The ideal candidate will bring deep expertise in quality engineering principles a hands-on approach to problem-solving and the ability to collaborate cross-functionally to ensure operational efficiency and all assemblies meet design specifications. As a Staff Quality Engineer you will be responsible for defining and establishing the Quality Management Systems needed to meet critical KPI metrics. They will be expected to work closely with SIE and Design teams on supplier readiness. Your role in this demanding and fast-paced environment will contribute to the development of a groundbreaking product aligning with our mission of achieving machine-to-build-machine capability.
Lead Quality Engineering Team
Build mentor and scale high-performing teams to contain root cause and resolve quality issues in the high-volume manufacturing environment ensuring alignment with Teslas speed and quality objectives
Lead the development of quality controls plans lead failure analysis and continually update PFMEA based on lessons learned from new failures working cross functionally with design manufacturing & sustaining engineers
Establish criteria for Part Inspection Standards based on product specification and process critical requirements to determine component and assembly level readiness
Able to steer productivity with SIEsuppliers to ensure effective countermeasures with minimal iterations
Leads problem solving of unusual and technically ambiguous issues using first principles
Ability to proactively discover and define problems independently
Able to take action and leaddrive peers and cross functional teams on resolving root causes with no support
Mentorship & Training
Guide and mentor junior engineers and technicians fostering a culture of technical excellence and knowledge sharing within the operations team
Operational Support
Provide technical expertise to troubleshoot and resolve quality issues in real-time minimizing production downtime and enhancing operational reliability
Bachelors Degree in Engineering Mechanical Electrical Mechatronics Computer Engineering etc. or other technical discipline or equivalent experience
Experienced in QS-9000 ISOTS 16949 APQP PPAP DFMEA PFMEA required
Demonstrated success in applying quality problem solving methods such as fishbone diagrams FMEA process capability analysis hypothesis testing DoE SPC etc.
Well-organized with meticulous attention to detail
Experience with broad variety of measurement and inspection techniques
Industry Knowledge
Experience in high-volume manufacturing or automotive production environments is highly desirable
Excellent oral written and presentation communication skills with the ability to present complex technical concepts to diverse audiences
Able to work under pressure while managing competing demands and tight deadlines
