The incumbent will work as part of the TPCL team, which facilitates biomedical research by providing remnant human tissue samples and histology services. During surgeries, only a

portion of the tissue removed from patients is used for diagnostic purposes; the remaining remnant tissue is typically discarded. The TPCL team collects, processes, stores, and

distributes these remnant tissues to approved biomedical researchers at UCLA. Additionally, the team offers histology services, including embedding and sectioning of both frozen and

formalin-fixed human and animal tissues, as well as digital imaging, image analysis, and immunohistochemistry.

Key Responsibilities:

Receive tissue samples from clinical pathology staff for distribution as fresh tissues or for banking.

Freeze and/or process tissues in formalin, and document all samples banked or distributed.

Enter sample information into a secure database, ensuring accuracy and confidentiality.

Collaborate with pathology and frozen section room staff to expedite the delivery of surgical specimens.

Dissect surplus materials as trained.

Histology Support:

Assist in processing formalin-fixed and fresh tissues for embedding (both in paraffin and OCT), sectioning (paraffin and frozen), and staining (H&E, special stains, immunohistochemistry,

and immunofluorescence).

Prepare solutions, maintain laboratory equipment, and perform quality control procedures.

Evaluate the quality of tissue sections and stains, troubleshoot technical and equipment issues, and document all work performed.

This role requires attention to detail, dedication to maintaining high-quality tissue samples, accurate data entry, and strict adherence to privacy and security protocols.
