What this position entails
The Staff Software Engineer will play a pivotal role in delivering innovative technology solutions for the P&C claims industry. As a core member of our growing Nodal team, you will transform market needs and product requirements into scalable, high-quality software.
Nodal is a comprehensive SaaS platform that uses artificial intelligence (AI) to analyze structured and unstructured data, predict claim risk, and activate early interventions on high-cost claims. Our team brings together advanced data ingestion, machine learning, and intuitive product design to give clients actionable insights at scale.

What we need
10+ years of relevant software development experience
Strong experience in software development using programming or scripting languages such as Python, JavaScript/TypeScript, SQL
Experience with React, TypeScript, and preferably Next.js.
Experience building backend API services with Django, REST, or similar Python web frameworks
Cloud development experience with Azure and/or AWS
Experience with Docker or containerized application development
Design, implement, and maintain scalable, efficient CI/CD pipelines using GitHub Actions and Terraform
Understanding of Agile practices (e.g. Scrum)
Experience with full software development lifecycle
Excellent technical design, problem solving, and debugging skills
Experience with:
Domain driven design
Microservice architecture
Event-driven architecture
REST API design
Writing testable code, unit tests, integration tests, etc.
Strong collaboration skills and the ability to work both independently and as part of a team
Proven ability to interpret and implement business and functional requirements
Ability to translate clients business needs, claims workflows, and claims expertise into actionable product requirements
Understanding of the value of test automation and a desire to incorporate it in development practice
Understanding of secure software development practices, especially when working with sensitive or regulated data

The expected application deadline for this job is January 31, 2027. This position is open to remote work anywhere in the US. Applicants must be willing to travel to the Milliman office in Brookfield, WI as needed and travel nationwide for meetings, conferences, and team events.
Compensation
The overall salary range for this role is $117,500 - $222,985. For candidates residing in:
