Scion Technology has been engaged to conduct a search for an experienced Staff Software Engineer for our client, an AI-driven software company transforming the global commodities industry in SF, CA! This is a full-time, direct hire position offering a hybrid work schedule in San Francisco (South Park).

POSITION OVERVIEW

This is an exceptional opportunity to join a rapidly growing AI startup as a founding member of the engineering team. The Staff Software Engineer will play a critical role in shaping the company's technical architecture, building production-grade AI systems, and developing software that powers billions of dollars in commercial transactions. Working directly with the founders, you'll lead the design of scalable distributed systems, influence technical strategy, and help establish the engineering culture as the organization continues to grow.

RESPONSIBILITIES

• Architect, design, and build highly scalable backend services, distributed systems, and cloud-native infrastructure.

• Develop and deploy production-grade AI solutions, including LLM applications, agentic workflows, and intelligent automation pipelines.

• Lead full-stack development using technologies such as React, TypeScript, Python, Go, and Node.js to deliver seamless customer experiences.

• Own technical initiatives from architecture and design through deployment, production support, and continuous optimization.

• Partner closely with founders and customers to translate complex business challenges into scalable software solutions.

• Drive engineering excellence by leading architecture reviews, establishing best practices, and ensuring high-quality, maintainable code.

• Mentor engineers and help shape the team's technical standards, development processes, and engineering culture.

• Continuously improve system performance, reliability, security, and scalability while evaluating and adopting emerging technologies.

QUALIFICATIONS

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related technical discipline

• 12+ years of professional software engineering experience

• Proven experience building and deploying scalable production software in high-growth startup environments

• Strong background in backend engineering, distributed systems, cloud infrastructure, and software architecture

• Hands-on experience developing production AI, LLM, or agent-based applications

• Experience designing reliable data processing pipelines and scalable APIs

• Excellent communication, collaboration, and technical leadership skills

• Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, highly ambiguous startup environment

• Experience with large-scale data processing systems and cloud-native architectures a plus

• Logistics, supply chain, commodities, or financial technology experience preferred

• Experience mentoring engineers and leading complex technical initiatives desired

COMPENSATION & BENEFITS
