Staff Software Engineer - Walmart Fulfillment Services & Marketplace Engineering

We are looking for an experienced Staff Software Engineer to join the Walmart Fulfillment Services (WFS) and Marketplace Engineering team. This hands-on role requires exceptional coding skills, a passion for technology and engineering excellence, and the ability to guide and mentor teams of engineers. You will play a pivotal role in defining and maintaining our technical architecture, ensuring alignment with business goals, scalability requirements, and cost optimization. Candidates must be legally authorized to work in the U.S. without current or future employer-sponsored immigration support. Walmart does not provide visa sponsorship for this role.

About the Team

Walmart Fulfillment Services (WFS) offers end-to-end fulfillment services for Walmart Marketplace sellers. We uniquely provide a wide range of features, scale, quality, cost efficiency, and operational excellence to help sellers grow successful businesses on Walmart.com. As a Staff Software Engineer on this team, you will have the opportunity to work on end-to-end fulfillment experiences at massive scale. This is a highly collaborative team made up of Engineering, Product, Business, and Analytics partners, working iteratively to build new products and features that support the growth of Walmart and its Marketplace sellers. We deliver high-performing supply chain solutions such as simplified inbound inventory intake, preferred carrier programs, faster receiving at consolidation centers, personalized forecasting, and inventory allocation-just a few of the capabilities built by this team in collaboration with many others.

What You'll Do

As a Staff Software Engineer, you will:

Act as a technical lead to design, develop, and deliver multiple business- or technology-driven projects with small to medium-sized teams, supporting new functionalities and user experiences.

Play a pivotal role in shaping architectural decisions, championing scalable, secure, and efficient solutions to meet current and future needs.

Serve as a subject matter expert, providing technical leadership and mentorship to teammates, partner teams, and engineers.

Guide software engineers in building and delivering secure REST services using Spring Boot, Spring MVC, Kafka, Kubernetes, Maven, and cloud technologies.

Take ownership across the technical stack to improve speed of delivery, developer productivity, and overall engineering effectiveness.

Drive availability, quality, performance, and resiliency goals with your team.

Collaborate with cross-functional partners including Product, Business, and Operations to understand requirements and deliver high-quality software products.

Troubleshoot business and production issues by gathering relevant information (issue, impact, and criticality), performing root cause analysis, engaging support teams as needed, developing action plans, and completing required documentation.

Communicate effectively with peers and stakeholders at all levels.

Enjoy spending time writing and reviewing code while leading technical and architectural design discussions.

Help establish tools, processes, and documentation to continuously improve code quality and engineering standards.

What You'll Bring

10+ years of experience building complex architectures, distributed systems, and microservices.

Expert-level knowledge of Java technologies, SQL and NoSQL databases, distributed caching, event-streaming platforms such as Kafka, and container technologies.

A disciplined approach to software development, including code reviews, testing, documentation, and clean code practices.

A strong desire to continuously improve, learn, and adopt the latest capabilities in Kubernetes, Java, and Spring Boot.

Hands-on experience with BigQuery (data warehousing) and Cloud Bigtable (NoSQL) is a plus.

Proven ability to translate requirements into project plans while working in an agile environment.

Experience partnering with cross-functional teams to solve business problems and deliver best-in-class customer experiences.

A collaborative leadership style that encourages teams to work together and deliver insight-driven outcomes.
