Overview:

At REI, we believe a life outdoors is a life well lived. As the State and Local Policy Manager, you will develop strategy and help shape how we engage with state and local governments. You will support public policy efforts that reflect our values, including, but not limited to natural resources/public lands policy, tax and trade policy, regulatory compliance and product sustainability. 

 

In this role, you will work across teams and with external partners to build alignment, share insights, and support policy priorities. You will also help connect employees, members, and communities to advocacy efforts that strengthen our impact. 

Responsibilities:
  • Develop and lead state and local policy strategy on key issues in our priority regions 

  • Track legislation and regulatory policy, and focus engagement where it matters most 

  • Develop clear policy communication, issue briefs, and other materials to inform leaders and support decision-making 

  • Build and maintain relationships with policymakers, partners, and community organizations 

  • Partner across internal REI teams to align business goals with policy efforts 

  • Create tools and content that support employee and member engagement on our advocacy priorities 

  • Contribute to the culture and connection of the Community and Government Affairs team 

Required Qualifications:

  • 7+ years of experience in public policy, government affairs, or advocacy 

  • Knowledge of state and local legislative and regulatory processes 

  • Expertise in natural resources policy, regulatory compliance, and tax/trade issues and knowledge related to product sustainability 

  • Proven ability to engage policymakers and stakeholders while working in dynamic, complex environments  

  • Experience developing and implementing policy strategies 

  • Strong communication and collaboration skills across diverse audiences 

Preferred Qualifications: 

  • Experience in outdoor industry or conservation advocacy

Base Pay Range: $98,300.00 - $157,400.00 per year
