Normal Work Schedule: Monday - Friday 8:00am to 5:00pm


Job Summary: The State Director of the Small Business Development Center engages a broad range of technical programs and leverages resources to carry out the Alabama Small Business Development Center (ASBDC) mission, strategic plan, and objectives. Leads the statewide program and the resources necessary to support it. Directs budgets, program activities, staff, and member organizations to ensure high quality of services and create economic impact.


Required Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor's degree and eight (8) years of business consulting, small business development, and/or a management experience in the private sector; OR master's degree and six (6) years of business consulting, small business development, and/or a management experience in the private sector.


Additional Required Department Minimum Qualifications: Must have valid U.S. driver's license. Must be at least 19 years of age at time of hire and have an acceptable Motor Vehicle Report that is in compliance with University policies. Applicants under the age of 21 will have some driving restrictions.


Skills and Knowledge: Significant public presentation and advocacy abilities to carry out the work of the ASBDC. Demonstrated ability to organize resources, manage multiple projects, and direct personnel. Exceptional communication skills. Ability to relate to various groups of people. Capability of working effectively with the business community.


Preferred Qualifications: Ten (10) years work experience in a small business professional advisory role or in a management leadership capacity with a private sector or economic development organization. Experience with the following areas are preferred: private capital markets and capital access; government guaranty lending; government contracting; international trade; leadership or executive level work with small businesses as an entrepreneur or professional adviser; and experience with SBA programs and university systems.
