Reporting to the Operations Supervisor, the Station Operator Technician (Op Tech) is required to operate the Lamokin Frequency Converter Station located in Chester, PA. The Op Tech will be responsible for day-to-day station operations including facility inspections, mechanical and electrical equipment troubleshooting and repairs, operating the Frequency Converters (FC), performing high voltage switching up to 13kV, and supporting contractor activities on site. The Op Tech shall be able to work independently or will work in coordination with other personnel as needed to accomplish work tasks.
Description of Duties:
Duties include, but are not limited to:
Support the Operations Supervisor with any duties as assigned. This may include, but is not limited to, maintenance work (mechanical and electrical), troubleshooting, facility and equipment inspections, cleaning, control board operations, places equipment in and out of service, high voltage switching up to 13kV, supporting contractors and outside services relating to plant operations, procedure development, work order management, and outage
Must operate SCADA system for the Frequency Converters and coordinate machine adjustments with the Controlling Authority of the station and the Amtrak Load Dispatcher as needed
Identify and repair, as necessary, electrical, mechanical, and control systems including analytical problem solving/troubleshooting
Takes periodic readings reflecting performance of equipment, records data, runs required tests, interprets results and makes necessary corrections
Performs diagnostic testing and utilizes test equipment, analyzing, and interpreting results
Will be available for the 24/7 operation of the station. The Op Tech position will work a normal schedule of Monday - Friday 7A - 3P and cover minimal holiday duties, callouts, and scheduled overtime as needed
Will be the administrator of the Lock Out Tag Out program for the Lamokin Station
Coordinates outages with Amtrak Load Dispatcher and Power Director as needed
Performs all work in a safe manner utilizing proper PPE and following all HSSE policies and procedures
Utilize company electronic communication methods and maintenance management system tools to assign, track, and complete work tasks
Ensures work plans are carried out to completion for minor preventative maintenance activities and larger machine outages
Assists management in developing work plans and tracking contractor work completion
Perform general clean-up work
Perform other duties as assigned, or as necessary
Qualifications/Requirements:
High School diploma or equivalent
Associates degree in Mechanical or Electrical skill set is preferred
Experience in power plant or switchyard operations/maintenance is preferred
Experience in troubleshooting experience in electrical and/or mechanical system is preferred
Proficient in Microsoft products (Word, Excel, Outlook, Teams, etc.)
Strong analytical, interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills
Strength and endurance to perform the above responsibilities
Be available for and respond to off-hour call-ins at the facility and work overtime when needed
Be willing and able to travel for training as needed
Ability to obtain NERC/CIP PSP clearance
Ability to obtain/maintain switching and EIC authority for work
Ability to work independently and demonstrate initiative
Ability to read and understand electrical, hydraulic, and mechanical prints and perform troubleshooting
Ability to work in elevated positions, small or confined spaces, work on or in proximity to energized electrical components, and in hot or cold environments
Maintain a valid driver's license for operating company vehicles
Maintain medical clearance for respirator use and ability to pass a respirator fit and use test
