About the Position
This position is located in the Tax Department in Hinds County. Perform duties related to the Office of Re-Employment Assistance, including but not limited to the following: Perform investigations regarding employer compliance in unemployment tax registrations; verify the accuracy of tax rate calculations and conduct SUTA (State Unemployment Tax Act) dumping investigations; and verify proper registration of employers with newly created FEINs. Register, close, or transfer employer accounts as appropriate based on information received from employers or their representatives. Duties will include access to federal tax information, and all safeguards must be observed. Perform other functions necessary to maintain the accuracy and integrity of employer records. Will assist internal and external customers and perform other duties assigned by the supervisor and/or senior staff.
What youll need to be Successful
Extensive knowledge of MDES laws and department policies and procedures. Ability to communicate effectively, work independently and cooperatively with other staff. Effectively adapt to changing work duties and processes. Excellent organizational, customer service, and time management skills. Understand and explain complex matters. Proficient computer and Microsoft Excel skills and experience with MDES online services.
Preferred Qualifications
Typically requires a Bachelor's Degree and 1-3 years of experience. - Agency Preferred Qualifications: Bachelor's Degree from an accredited (4) four-year college or university and two (2) years of professional/administrative experience in work related to described duties. - All applicants must have a valid driver's license and pass an extensive background check.
